You can actually import that seed into Electrum now... They even show you how in this video: https://youtu.be/E-KcY6KUVnY

It will import all the transactions for that wallet, but won't include any labels you may have assigned to the addresses/payments.

For the record, the password DOES work, it's the processing of the transactions internally that chokes due to unexpected data causing the error.

So, there is a good chance you can use OpenSSL to decrypt the .aes file... But you'll probably have to dig through the MultiBit source code to figure out the iterations/salt settings required etc...

Hey, due to the password bug I'm unable to log into my multibit HD. I have the backup words though. I have seen that a common advice in order to recover the bitcoins is to download the breadwallet and generate a wallet there using the multibit HD backup words. However, due to tax purposes I would like recover my transaction history as well. Is this possible at all? I have the payments.aes file stored on my hard disk btw, but since it is encrypted with the password that doesn't work I can't open it.
