Nothing special as you mentioned and I don't know anything big is going to happen but the guards have been called up to manage the crowd and to avoid any stampadge sort of situation and I think you have over exaggerating this recurring event. It's actually necessary to have guards or someone to control the crowd for the benefit of the crowd themself but not to have any restriction or make them feel sense of insecurity.

It’s not uncommon for events with large turnouts to require heightened security, which is exactly why the state of Oklahoma will be deploying its National Guard to help with crowd control during the upcoming total solar eclipse. The solar eclipse will occur on April 8, and the city of Idabel is among 13 of the best locations to witness this celestial spectacle. Idabel, which is located in McCurtain County, stands to be overwhelmed by as many as 100,000 tourists and spectators whose presence will most certainly overwhelm local resources if they don’t have any additional support.

We have been watching the eclipse since we were kids and it will last only just a few minutes and nothing special about it anymore actually.
So what exactly is going to happen on April 8 that they need to deploy the National Guard? It looks like something is going to happen.
When it comes to security of the people, nothing is too big. You never can tell if the government has gotten some intelligent report and want to make sure that everything thing is in order. The safety of the people is Paramount and whatever efforts that's been made to achieve this should be encouraged and not criticized. Most people feel more comfortable when they see more security personnels around the environment.

Why do you think something extraordinary will happen? From what I read, theyre just there to control crowds and handle emergencies if needed and  it's about dealing with all the people coming to see it, not coverin' something up.  I'd say grab some eclipse glasses, kick back and enjoy the show.  No need to stress something cosmic.

The question here make me laugh, following the tune of your questions I concur that nothing special either will anything happens, I see the people taken all preventive measure to ensure safety of life and property because allot happened in our society where some event or occasion purpose may be miss used by people with opposite agenda, deployment if such number is just to ensure everything goes well without loss if life and property not on the occasion of anything been special to the upcoming solar eclipse.

I mean. I understand this is going to be a event wich will attract thousands of tourist to a single spot in the state of Oklahoma, but I don't fully understand what it would be necessary to deploy the national guard of that state instead normal and civil police officers to take care of any irregular situation.
There have been several solar eclipses there in the United States, I believe the last one actually happened some months ago, and yet this is the first time I have read about the deployment of this kind of military body for the sake of security, in a event is which supposed to be mostly secured.

Personally, since this is an election year for the United States of America and seeing how many events are being politicized by both wides of the political expectrum, the last thing one needs is to further give things like this one which could be also politicized for the sake of propaganda. I bet no time will pass before some politician or news channel start to claim the deployment of the forces in such a way is inappropriate and only serves as a way to show off authoritarian power or whatever. It seems common sense is getting uncommon as we approach November.

One of the major responsibilities of the state is to protect lives and properties. The population of the expected tourist might overwhelm the local authority so the National Guard will be at hand to organise the people to ensure that everybody properly coordinates themselves. We have seen gatherings such as music concerts and sports competitions experience stampede causing injuries and death because they were not well organised or coordinated. I also support the deployment of the National Guard because of the rise in terrorist and criminal activities. These criminal elements like targeting large gatherings to carry out their violent activities. Maybe the government might have gotten an intelligence report that necessitated the presence this security agents during the solar eclipse.

Just as you said "nothing special about it anymore" so I. That 8 April I don't still think anything special Will happen as it has also been the usual rumours that something strange and unusual would happen. I'm not a scientist and so I can't argue to that untill that day and then I'd only testify what I've seen.
Whatever global inventions is usually to the benefit of the government. I just hope we'd be safe at all courses of it.

They're just there to probably lower the chances of a riot, it's always a likely thing to happen in a lot of crowded places so that's not really surprising that they do this, what I'm questioning is that they're using the National Guard to do this when most of the time it's police or riot police. Maybe they do got an intel that something's about to go down on the April 8 Solar Eclipse. Kind of looking forward to it but worried at the same time because riots are a possibility.
I quite agree. There are some people who are religious and may want to take this as a sign of something and in a bid to get a better view may cause ruckus. Well for me, it's not really necessary for the deployment of these guards though but maybe this measure is been taken because someone in the past had become over zealous and a stampede occurred.

I think that it's a commendable decision to deploy national guards to control the anticipated crowd that will want to view the rare eclipse experience, it shows that they want the best security on ground to avoid casualties. Although I think that the police should have been enough to control the crowd, but I guess that they probably want to add color and extra protection by deploying the national guard, if they're anticipating any threat to lives when the eclipse will happen, they'd be deploying army troops then discourage or ban tourists from coming to witness the eclipse moment. I really don't think that there's any cause for alarm regarding the state's decision to deploy the national guard.
