Some people used to forecast the "ultimate geomagnetic storm" and end of civilization almost every year, so it's quite boring now. Especially because of the decreasing solar activity in the next decade. The same people used to sell the equipment you need to defend your stuff. Fear sells.
No Worries, 
Make a Homemade Faraday Cage,
Place a Laptop inside , Laptop has been modified to run off of a Lithium Battery Bank instead of a single battery.
Solar Panels are inside the faraday cage with the laptop and DC battery bank,
No electrical wires come thru the cage, in fact , you use Fiber optic cables to connect you to the internet, so only light comes thru those cables.
And only the fiber optic cables run thru the faraday cage.
Reason for the solar panel is have some high power lights above the cage that shine on the solar panels keeping the battery bank charged.
Optional :
Solar Panels & battery banks could be replaced with small gas generator, however area has to ventilated to keep the fumes from killing you.

If the Big EMP hits , personally going to worry more about Heating & Cooling, Electricity , Shelter , Food & Clean water,
