How much words are "short text" and "long text"?
The first thing that any translator should learn is to how to charge for their service.
I just edited my post and specified what's a short text, a long text, very long text and extremly long text.
I think it would be better like this.

So, you are offering up to 250 words for $0.5? This is 50 times less than rate of professional translators, do you think you are 50 times worse than them?
If not, I suggest you to raise your rates. Significantly.

Yes, just make sure to work hard, improve on your writing style, build your own glossary, proofread your translations, etc.
Unlike most people here think, good translation requires a lot of skill and must be rewarded accordingly.
