Fun fact. There are 31 BTC million bids to purchase bitcoins in gox order book.

More specifically 31802196.5506 BTC. Nevermind 11 million float and 21 million hard limit.

There are a lot of spam order in order book, I think it is not reasonable to ocunt all of them.

see on bitcoin-analytics.com the real prices for 1k 10k 100k btc and whether necesary volume is actually present , reasonbale or just spammed.

I won't be surprised if MtGox fills all these orders. Fractional reserve FTW.

MtGox does not fill any orders. Buyers fill sell orders and sellers fill buy orders. MtGox provides the platform.

C'mon. Do u really believe MtGox doesn't play with the market?  Grin

I'm not going to engage in a tinfoil-hat discussion now. MtGox is an exchange and as such it provides an order book where traders can fill each other's orders.

Thank you, Captain Obvious!

The fact that Gox announces that uncovered orders will soon be impossible, does not make a difference. Most volume is not on the books.

The uncovered orders are also not (and never have been) on the book. They remain in the trader's account with status "invalid" and are not visible on the order book. Its actually totally irrelevant for this discusion here, its only a performance problem for MtGox trading engine having to re-evaluate the status of *ALL* orders over and over again all the time just in case one of the "invalid"s suddenly can become valid because the user's account balance has increased or having to remove previouly valid orders from the book because account balance has decreased.

The fact you can make unfillable offers is only a hassle to the order matching engine.
I was under the impression they were showing in the books? If not my mistake.

if you buy 1 million BTC at 0.000001 Dollar you just need 1 dollar in your account for this to be a valid order. This is the reason why when summing up the bids you are summing them up in USD and not in BTC. Then this would be an 1 USD order, no matter at what price it was placed or how many BTC it asks for at that price.

Will be nice when Gox releases that fix on the 17th.

Don't think anything will change because the orderbook feed doesn't actually allows those.

I think a lot of the bids are less than $1 in case there is another flash crash.

What fix?
Nothing showing in the order books unless you have the funds to execute.

That's a pretty serious bug and in some way connected to the current trends imo.
