And here I am having a hard time earning merits and trying to make my posts as good quality as possible. Cry I was just wondering how these kinds of people had such high merits and some scammers even have trusts on their accounts while people like me who are just doing things within the rules are sometimes having a hard time joining campaigns due to high requirements.
Never expect Merit to come to the posts you make, when Merit doesn't come it will make you disappointed. Do something more valuable than you've ever made, there are plenty of Merit Sources in the forums who will reward posts that are considered quality.
Although judging the quality of a post is highly subjective, the generous people of the forum will not pass up a post that has value. Try to sell a product that attracts buyers.

The merits this person got were the same as the 250 Merit you earned when the merit system was introduced, by that time he had reached activity for Legendary and the forum Admin awarded him 1000 Merit.

Hey bro you are recognized and your followership to the the forum rules is the best decision you and any other forum userlik you could ever make. Cause a multitude are doing something wrong doesn't make it right. One inevitable thing about following rules is that it gives you rest of mind while others are shaking.

I wonder how many newbies has falling to this scam scheme. Like this is one too many of scams in the forum and for newbies that might have fallen for this it may send a wrong signal to them thinking that this is how almost every other users in the forum is. I think there should be a punishment for such impersonation act so to serve as deterrent to anyone that might wanna nurse such idea in the future.

So the team member who was trying to threatening everyone us that they will have to face consequences for calling him scammer have already tasted his own medicine by getting banned.Giving him signature ban was good but complete ban to such scammers who impersonate themselves as admin members is best. They try these cheap tricks Just to fool any newbie whom they might contact through PM or they message them so playing these cards but how they don't think they can get caught I don't know. But appreciate your efforts @Ratimov for exposing these scammers here.

As already pointed out by @Ratimov he has not earned any merit but have his rank from the airdropped merits when the system was implemented but you can gain more knowledge and write quality stuff to gain merits like you have received 5 merits and have sent 23 merits and scammers here are exposed who gain nothing in the end as you have seen.
I sincerely regretted what I did way back coz to be honest I didn't know what to do on my merit back then that's why I used it the way I used it just like what you have said. I failed to understand the meaning of merit system back then, I thought it would just refresh whenever it reaches a certain amount of time. It's really an honest mistake on my part, I should've been careful on my smerits coz now I don't even have one and there're lots of posts I read that deserves to be merited. Well lesson learned for me Cheesy.

This time somehow, I'll take note all this advises you gave me and some of the fellow member's opinion here. Thank you very much I really appreciate the kindness.

This user can't even earn a merit, the merits you can see on his profile are airdropped merits. So looking at the merit of this member's profile, you have no reason to regret. And there is no positive feedback on this member's profile, all the negative feedbacks are showing. So it means that this member got these feedbacks for his activities!

@Ratimov, your report has been handled. So this case seems to be closed, it must that is be a good catch.

To be honest, I did not send any report, I just created a topic and nothing more. Then, after a while, I went to the forum and farlack was already banned.
Someone other than you may have reported it and the admin found an old report which was then taken care of. It's just that the moment coincided.

For those who think that farlack is banned because of his dubious signature and false admin: the reason for his ban is not that he tried on the role of an administrator. He is a longtime ban evader, the evidence was presented 2 years ago:

Ban evasion.

account_seller777 - banned

Yeah, I'm just not used to dropping into those threads and probably missed them. But thanks for showing the real reason clearly. Admin took the right moment to ban farlack, so now everyone should know why.

This is serious case for proper action, but I believe the forum does not moderate the scam even if had dropped the hammer.
I agree with the ban, it's much better than having to give him a second chance. That user is trying to identify himself as an admin for his personal gain regardless if he is cheating or some other reason. It's never ethical, and yes a permanent ban is a consequence.

But, I'm pretty sure we haven't seen the last of him.

I did not expect him to be banned though. Forum does not moderate scams. There are no such rules that allow to ban someone for writing some BS on their signature or I am missing anything from the unofficial rules.

The self-described admin was banned due to several accusations of ban evasion, not because he was a con artist.

This account must be a bought account. A user who was here from long time would not do such thing and they will know for sure that who are the admins or administrators. At least they can not miss the activities from Theymos if we don't consider Cyrus much active. Waste of money for whatever his investment was LOL

Cry I was just wondering how these kinds of people had such high merits and some scammers even have trusts on their accounts while people like me who are just doing things within the rules are sometimes having a hard time joining campaigns due to high requirements.

If you were more careful, you would see that this account has not earned a single merit in its entire history: https://bpip.org/smerit.aspx?to=farlack The account has 1000 merit due to the fact that they were given to him by airdrop, after the introduction of the merit system in 2018, the airdrop was accrued based on the rank that the user had in January 2018. farlack has been Legendary for quite some time now, so it received an airdrop of 1000 merits, which was in line with the new Legendary rank rules.
I didn't know that. Coz honestly, when the merit system was implemented I seldomly posted here due to being busy at school. I have only merited few people as far as I can remember. Although he has a high rank, I admire his tenacity claiming to be an admin hahaha. If that was me, I wouldn't waste my time doing such things but instead focus on joining campaigns, coz it's just a waste of account.

You should do research about merit because you want to get some if you want something you have to do research on what it is how it affects you and what it means to your status, checking your post you just got active a few months but since you are on a senior status you know where to look and how to look for it, you're lucky you got a senior account without going through merits requirements.
I just recently came back from a long period due to busy schedule on my classes. To be honest when I first came here I never really took it seriously or even focus on ranking up coz all I read from the past is to maintain a good quality of posts, and yes, it's true that I know what to do here to get merits or even trusts, but only know of all the times that I took it seriously. Just like before I only did it just to pass time while earning a little bit. My mind was wholly focused on finishing my education.

Dr Ratimov Grin
The title of your thread nearly confused me to congratulate you as a new moderator. If there are people who actually post without reading the OP and previous comments, they should be congratulating you by now.

Lol, funny. If I create another topic about my achievements on the forum, the forum whiners will have another fit and start crying in the reputation section about it. Cheesy

Lol, I remember too well the uproar your legendary rank achievement caused, to the extent I began to ask if there were other things attacked to the post other than the congratulatory post. Funny enough most of those threads weren't started by you.
Well, I wait to see the drama of 10000th merit, it will happen shortly.

You complained about merits. I understand how sad it feels to see your merit count stock in a particular number for so long. But your personal text said merit is just a number. You should have gotten over it.
Meanwhile, not all legendary accounts go their merits from scratch. Most of them got merit air drop.

We cannot predict a person's true identity, that's why everyone is not above the law, being a forum staff doesn't mean if such go against the law cannot face the consequences, we have many DT members that have lots of negative trust as feedbacks, i like this fact that it will always serves as a reference to others who think they can get away with it whenever they go against the rule without being faced the consequence.

I'm not sure what the guy gains by putting the lie in his signature, but there is no reason to try and dupe the users of the forum.
It's pretty obvious what he was trying to accomplish with this lame-brained scheme, as described by OP--and it makes sense only if you assume the signature would stay in place long enough to fool at least one newbie who didn't know any better.  The question I have is how the hell he thought that shit would go undetected for however long it'd be to scam someone.

I am from administartion!

I am honest and trusted!

OK, so maybe his motivations are psychological, i.e., he's psychotic.  In any case, good riddance to a nuisance.  Frontier justice prevails!

Well, what never ceases to amaze me are some of the lengths that some people will go to in order to fulfil their aims. What is he expecting or hoping he will achieve by claiming to be an administrator? On the surface this issue as a stand alone will probably not warrant a permanent ban but I do agree with you that at the very least he should receive a signature ban.

I think a signature ban should be administered at a bare minimum. I'm not sure what the guy gains by putting the lie in his signature, but there is no reason to try and dupe the users of the forum. I hope you have reported him?

Before I was just hoping users would be banned from showing signature forever, but justice came after and hit him forever. Now he will just watch [or maybe fight with his alt account].

But my simple question is why don't you have the admin badge displayed on your profile, like "Staff, administrators, moderator or even donator" to show you are a high profile person.
Don't ask him again [won't be able to answer you], he's probably lost and just watching now.

Yeah I noticed that, though have already posted before I saw it so I quoted as well.

I think the signature ban is too mild a punishment for discrediting the forum administration. This new admin deliberately undermines their authority with his behavior. I would suggest a permanent ban (if it was up to me), so that it would be a lesson for others and so that it would not even occur to others to repeat such a thing.

But, there are still large parts of this forum that don't display the trust info. If not a full on ban then at least a signature ban should be given.

A well-known forum scammer, farlack, decided to try out a new scheme to deceive users. Cheesy
I think this member deserves to get signature ban for posting this lie (even if he considers this as a joke).
Most experienced members won't be fooled by this, and we can clearly see negative feedback received in his profile, but newbies can easily get tricked with this.
Maybe you can report him for this to moderator but I think this can be counted as breaking of forum rules, especially if he is sending PM's to other members.

Smiley This scammer appeared on this forum under various guises, ranging from a developer of crypto coins to an administrator of this forum, as well as a representative of the authorities and an influential person from Russia, although in fact he is not even a citizen of Russia. I think that lately no one has come across his scams and he decided to go all-in, anyway, he has nothing to lose.

I am seriously man.
Nobody's doubting the seriousness of your gender identity. We're merely skeptical of your claim to represent the forum administartion, which you've presented without evidence. Perhaps you can get Thermos to vouch for you?

Straight up ban should be a no-brainer in this case.

I also agree signature ban for long time (at least 10 years) should be bare minimum action done by admin/moderator.

I am from administartion! You don't know nothing. You will be banned soon. Don't post bullshit. Or forum can die! I work on hosting and solve technical issues!

How long is "soon"? I do not see OP (UID #2627711) mentioned on https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php.

I think the essence of the scam will be the so-called paid help for various users, various newbies and users who are not familiar with the structure of the forum. For example, help in unbanning or getting a rank. I have not yet seen a single case when someone would decide to proclaim himself a representative of the administration.
I don't know any sane person that will want to patronise a painted account. I checked the user's profile and saw that they were already tagged in previous years. At the moment, they've only got just one tag for this act of claiming they're an admin. So, chances of anyone falling for farlack's antics is highly infinitesimal. Thank you for disrupting them more.

Interestingly, such misrepresentation and abuse of the signature should be somehow punished? If not a ban, then disabling the signature, for life.
I think the tags are enormous enough for warning the community. That account is already destroyed even without banning it.

What a terrible attempt. Usually when people need help, they go to Meta or Beginners & Help, no? I am curious to know if anyone has fallen for the signature and contacted him genuinely thinking that he was an administrator. What a fool, and what a way to continue destroying his already-destroyed reputation.

Nice catch Ratimov.

The best idea to prevent it influencing and deceiving many newbie is to ban signature forever. Obviously banning signature isn't a bad idea since the user is abusing his signature space for scam attempted, apparently trying to trick the unwary user. I support the flag too, and he really needs to be stopped.

He can only fool new users we all know if someone here is part of the admin he will have it in their title in their profile, not on their signature, this is the first time I've seen this scheme maybe he is offering service to new coin developers, but whatever his plan is he has no right to impersonate the admins.
Since he is disrespectful to the administrators he should get a ban.

I think a signature ban should be administered at a bare minimum. I'm not sure what the guy gains by putting the lie in his signature, but there is no reason to try and dupe the users of the forum. I hope you have reported him?
