Im not sure if 104.99 is to much for a psu for you, but I have 2 5870's and 2 5830's running on a corsair 750w for months now with no issues.  I have all my card overclocked and they are running pretty good.

Venezuela. Gotta love this country for gasoline(0.08$/gallon) and electricity.

Paid for via confiscation of wealth. Smiley

I don't really care about efficiency, as a kWh here is about 0.02$.

What do you live?

IF you get two Gold rated PSU it is unlikely you are saving that much.  Two PSU is simply an extra component, more space, more potential failures.

Not saying it is impossible but to make your rig more complicated to save $40 and (as OP indicated) do so at reduced efficiency just doesn't make any sense to me.

Then again I got 5 rigs to manage so I like them .... simple.
Of course - but if you are aiming for 50% load, as well as running 6 5870's in a rig, you have to either get 2 PSUs or pay a stratospheric cost for a single 2000 watt PSU  Wink

Personally I don't like multi PSU setups.  You want an efficient rig and that means 80Plus-Gold.  If you had to I would start w/ 3 GPU and then look to expand w/ first months revenue.   You can always add more GPU but you are unlikely to every replace PSU unless it dies.

On the risers I don't know.  I don't use em (3x5970 in a MB w/ x16 slots spaced two apart).

These things make multi-PSU painless:

If you keep the loads under 50-60% of the PSU rating, and get ones that are Gold certified, it works great.

If you can't afford PSU, you'll have to stick to multi-PSU setup, but be aware if they're not really efficient you may have them fried after some time. So it's not such a good idea, but it will hold for some time, and YMMV.

I remember I've read on this forum that powered molex are to be used if you're using to drive more than 4 GPU's on a motherboard. I have 4x5850 GPU's attached to a motherboard with non powered molex risers, and doing fine with such setup.

I can't give you opinion on your motherboard, just try it, it should be the least part to worry about in your current setup.
