And this is where the thread derails into personal preferences and saying nearly every single coin is a scam.

It was more than bad coding for white coin, the original dev used mashed up code from one of his previous fail coins, and the code didn't even do proof of stake which white coin was said to be. And then he disappeared right when PoW ended and dumped his premine, resulting in lots of people losing money. I would say that's a scam.

If the dev knew that the coin couldn't do what he said it would, purposely vanished and dumped the premine, then yep, it's a scam. Actually any dev dumping any premine meant for promotion could be considered scammy, regardless of coin problems.

I didn't follow the coin very closely, as it just seemed like it was copying blackcoin and hoping for a quick payout.

In order to make a list of scam coins, it may be best to first define what a scam is. The term is used too loosely in this forum for my definition. Poorly coded coins, simple clones, coins that go below ipo prices, or coins that simply lose you money, wouldn't be considered scams to me. Coins that have iffy distribution, but it's just a vague hunch, wouldn't qualify either. IPOs where the devs run away with the money, viruses in wallets and other similar behavior would certainly qualify.

I didn't keep track of white coin, but was it an ipo? If just bad coding, I wouldn't count it as a scam.

But that still leaves plenty of other scam coins around.

And no idea why anyone in their right mind would bother with dafuq coin. It's basically a red flag from the start to avoid it.

A pair of sketchy coins to me, yet I can't say with 100% certainty are scams, would be mandarin coin and australia coin. There was a rumored log for mandarin devs that looks very very shady. They could be considered a scam under the view that they didn't follow up with a proper airdrop. Many nation coins probably qualify there.

Marinecoin may qualify, under an 'insane dev' rule. Faking marketcap based on premine. And a completely crazy website.

I'm sure there are plenty of bad ipo coins, but I may not have been around long enough to even know what they are. I've taken part in three ipos in the several months I've been here, and I've made money on all three (not very much, but some). So I may have missed the shadier ones.

With a name like dafuq it was pretty obvious what you were getting yourself into and sadly cryptokk was put out of commission due to this malicious dev.  All these scam coins are just rinse and repeat cycles for these crooked devs, greed is evil.

There's so many scam coins it's hard to keep track of. I will start with a couple, but the point of this thread is to post every scam coin in history, with some explanation of what happened. Hopefully this will help educate people on what scam coins are.

One of the most recent scam coins is white coin, dev used really shitty code and disappeared right after proof of stake was supposed to start, screwing over everyone who invested in white coin. People lost thousands of dollars when the market crashed. Exchanges are still shut down as of now, new dev team has been working for 4 days to try and make a wallet. It looks like it might become legit, but it started as a scam to make the dev money. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-wc-whitecoin-big-news-foundation-investors-more-whitecoininfo-568517

The white coin dev also made ghost coin, another broken code scam coin. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/annghc-ghostcoin-4-exchanges-fast-powpos-hybrid-openssl-patched-509522

Stack coin is probably one of the most infamous scams, dev stole 69.5 BTC and never released the coin. https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/annstack-stackcoin-get-in-now-fast-decrease-launch-22022014-457575

So yeah, post more here.

hope not....but i think your right

People should read through these before they consider IPO.

Use protection, use escrow! its like a condom for your bitcoins!!
