Try GPU Temp, it shows temperature and load as well, its very accurate for me.

I think you found a bug with GPU-Z, I know the GPU load works with older AMD cards, but seems to be incorrect with your newer card.

Thanks for the update.

Here's the screenshot for I couldn't believe it myself ;-)
Problem solved, however: it seems that GPU-Z is showing the wrong GPU Usage, in AMD Overdrive and cgminer the Usage is shown as 100%.

Which version of GPU-Z?

0.7.5 is available.

Do you have a screen shot?

I'm very confused why my hashrate seems OKish at ~800kh/s with my Radeon R9 290 but under GPU-Z my CPU Load is constantly low at 0-10%
This is not wrong. GPU does the work and the CPU idles as it has virtually nothing to do.

CPU - motherboard processor

GPU - graphics card processor.

Its the GPU that does the mining at 800kh/s

I'm very confused why my hashrate seems OKish at ~800kh/s with my Radeon R9 290 but under GPU-Z my GPU Load shown in GPU-Z is constantly low at 0-10%

I am running on Win 7 64bit Ultimate with cgminer 3.7.2
Here is my setup:

cgminer --scrypt --auto-fan -o http://p2pool.org:9327 -u yaddayadda -p bla -v 1 -I 20 -g 1 -T --gpu-engine 920 --gpu-memclock 1430 --gpu-fan 63-85 --gpu-vddc 1.100 --temp-target 85 --temp-overheat 92 --temp-cutoff 97 --thread-concurrency 27472 --failover-only -o stratum+tcp://stratum.coinex.pw:9000 -u bla -p foo

I deleted the .bin files and tried to add -w 256 and --lookup-gap 2 but still no improvement. The card is getting higher temperatures and consumes over 300W power, but the GPU Load doesn't seem to go up  Huh
