Based on my understanding, if you continue reading verse 46, it says that they are forbidden to rule over their fellow Israelites ruthlessly. These slaves that they are allowed to buy and take are not from the people of their own, they are from other clans. To understand these passage of scriptures in the old Testament of the Bible you must understand the whole story of the Israelites from the beginning. They also have this what they call year of jubilee when slaves after serving for 7 years shall be free from being slaves and go back to his own country but then they are given the choice if they want to remain with their master then the master must take them back as slaves again. If they don’t have home or no family to live with they choose to remain. They are being bought as slaves with their consent because being slave is better for them, they are fed, sheltered and protected.
You aren't wrong, maybe it would have been more appropriate to make a discussion about the whole text of leviticus to have a better understanding, but in keeping the core subject of this question, slavery by leviticus, as the focus.
anyway, thanks for your participation.
How do rabbis teach this passage in torah school? Do they teach it's wrong? or just that's it illegal?
If they say it's wrong, they are against the word of the Torah. If they say it's illegal, but right, they are teaching illegality. Are they trying political action to make this passage legal? At the end it's like the gay issue... better be careful that edgar ain't the head of the fbi .
bring the bacon, this story start to stink...
Luke 22:19 And He took the bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body, given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.
Hebrews 10:29
How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has trampled on the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and insulted the Spirit of grace?
I wouldn't have... and frankly, I think, it has just not even really begun... poor them.
May God help me to not become like them !!!! pleassse .
I think we are done with this cultural investigation.
