Okay so I have upgraded to latest version of Electrum and all the options are there. I'm thinking I could do a double spend as it is still unconfirmed, is there any risk to this?

Unless is there another way to up the fee on it? I dont understand the "CPFP" thing.

thanks

Personally, i set my electrum preferences towards fees as:
- use dynamic fees => yes
- edit fees manually => yes
- enable replace-by-fee => yes

This way all bases are covered:
- electrum calculates what he thinks is an optimal fee
- you have a slider to edit the fees
- you can change the fee manually, overriding any automatic or slider setting
- if you still manage to mess up, and add to low fee, you can use the RBF functionality to edit the fee even after the tx has been broadcasted.

Apologies if being a pain but I dont see the option to set that when in sending tab. Is just a place for pay to, description and amount.
I'm using it on a raspberry pi if that makes any difference.

thanks

you have to go to the top menu => tools => preferences => fees

Btw: i edited my previous post (something i do a lot) to include some more info

I allmost forgot, these are the instructions for electrum 2.7.18. NeuroticFish has posted instructions for earlyer releases!

Maybe it's a little redundant, but I searched for this, so I'll paste the link.
It's the way to set the fees, but this time it's with images.

I've submitted your tx to ViaBTC's accelerator, it should get confirmed pretty soon.
Depends on how soon will ViaBTC's pool find a block though.

Thank you very much for that. really appreciate it.

So what should I set my fee to? Dynamic fee a good idea?

thanks

bitcoin is about freedom, so you can set it to whatever you want... Offcourse, if you set it to low, miners won't be tempted to include your tx in the block they're working on, and your tx might remain unconfirmed forever (untill it's dropped from the mempool of most of the networks nodes).

Personally, i set my electrum preferences towards fees as:
- use dynamic fees => yes
- edit fees manually => yes
- enable replace-by-fee => yes (select the "replaceable" button when creating a tx)

As for how much fees you need to add:
- calculate the transaction size: nr of inputs*147 + nr of outputs*34 + 10 + number of inputs
- go to https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ to get the optimal fee*
- multiply the result of step 1 with the result of step 2, and round up
- add as a fee

* the optimal fee depends on what you're doing, I usually pick a fee with 0-30 minutes delay if you're paying for goods or services, 0-90 minutes when i'm paying friends, and an even higher delay when i'm moving funds between my own wallets...

thanks a million for that. I thought I have the fee high enough. It is my first time using electrum. I do not seem to be able to raise the fee as suggested in that article. I may not have set it up to do so. Is there another option? Can I resend the payment with higher fee essentially double spending?

thanks a million.

yes, you can double spend the unconfirmed outputs/inputs to create a new transaction, i'm still working on a wizard for my site to assist in this functionality, but it isn't finished yet (to busy IRL).
That being said, you can manually do this to, if you'd like, but the procedure is kinda difficult for new members.

The wizard for a CPFP is online on my website, and can be used... but a CPFP offers less guarantee than double spending the inputs... And since you create a secondary transaction using the unconfirmed outputs of the pending transaction, you have twice the transaction size, thus twice the transaction fee.

From what I read that is quite a high fee. Is this correct?

The fee is still low ! If you want to confirme your transaction at very next block, You should follow this site before sending the transaction.

The best current fees https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx . I am following this site and my transaction gets confirmed so quickly.

It is my first time using electrum. I do not seem to be able to raise the fee as suggested in that article.

Tools > Preferences >Transactions > Transaction Fee per kb > Put the best current fees here .

Hi All,
Yes sorry another question about no confirmations. I have tried reading the docs but I do not reall y understand them so apologies for just asking.

I'm trying to send a payment but it is still not confirming. The size is 191bytes and I have it set to .5mBTC/kb (the default amount). From what I read that is quite a high fee. Is this correct? Is it a case that I did not leave enough in the wallet because with fee it would be empty? I'm trying to add a little extra to wallet to see if that solves issue. I'm sending the equivalent of about £100. I have not used BTC in a while but I dont remember having to worry about the fee before like this. I was using multibit before.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks
