I think this is more of an excuse to ban Telegram because protestors are using it for communication rather than Telegram actually being a threat to their government because of it's ICO. But like always with any internet bans, they are pretty easy to circumvent via tools like VPN and TOR. The main goal of such restrictions is probably to scare some users by branding some sites and services as "illegal".

I'm not surprise at all because we all know that Iran is always backward. I mean they are afraid of every technology that everyone uses today. They are very old and traditional so I wouldn't be surprised at this bitch moved.

Sad to say that they should embrace technology as this will be part of every corners of the globe. I really don't know how it will causes or undermine their national currency. They are just afraid of anything new and will push it away because they wanted to live the  traditional way.

You can orginize protests  with every messenger. You can do it even with the post pigeon - so Iran must ban post pigeons too, they are dangerous and can lead to revolution

The Iranian government is reportedly considering a move to ban the Telegram messaging application, in part because of fears that the Telegram digital asset could undermine the national currency.

The app which is widely used in Iran has been disapproved by some members of the government for its role in enabling residents to organize a protests in the country in December 2017.

The Telegram ICO through which the company raised at least $1.7 billion for developing a blockchain ecosystem, appears to have further instigated the Iranian government.
