I think it is the driver. You need to remove the AMD dirver while with 7950, then shutdown the computer and install the 7990 and install AMD catalyst 13.4 or later.

If it still does not work, you need to reinstall Windows.

If you can't even get into the window, im 100% sure its not a power issue because GPU only use 10% energy when Idle. You should look into driver issues...

No power raser won't help, because it drow power from the slot and from your board it still will be 75w. You need decent board with PCI express version 3.0, because it will supply the card with 150w, not 75w.

Yeah even worse. See the picture below from tests for power consumption.

If you type the model of your card, maybe I can be more accurate

Hello

I'm sorry to tell you that, but you can't supply it with enought power with PCI espress 1.0 slot. The math is simple. 7990 has 3 8 pin power connectors x 150w each = 450w + 75w from PCI espress 1.0 slot = 525w max. BUT 7990 needs 550 to 600w, depending on a core speed. So you need a decent motherboard with PCI espress version 3.0 slot which will supply 150w, and the combined power wil be 600w.

Mine only has 2 8 powered pins for some reason. So thats only 300 watts?

Dude thank you so much. Would a powered riser make it work? Let me go try with that. I didn't think about it that.

hi buddy. what happens after? does your pc shut off? or restart? If you still have the old cards, i would uninstall the drivers using those cards.then put the 7990 in and get the newest drivers.

Right after it says windows is loading files the screen turns black the part where it supposed to show windows logo plus loading bar.

Have you checked the power supply, it must be a minimum of 700-800 kW
this is probably the cause if the 7950 works. A 7990 needs a lot more juice to work.

I have a 1200 watt power supply. Checked it Cheesy.

Hi there,

I installed a new 7990 on a fairly old motherboard. - the ga-965p-ds3. It has a pciex16 slot and a pcie x1 slot and hoping to use both. The problem is I can't load windows. When I turn on the computer, after clicking "start windows normally" nothing seems to happen. I have tried this with the other 7990 I have and all have this problem so I think there is probably some compatibility issue. I have also tried putting in a 7950 and the 7950 works perfectly so the rest of the parts are okay. If someone could help me figure out how to get this thing working on my old mobo, I'll reward them 1 LTC. Thanks.
