While the markets remain bearish and the prices are quite stagnant, the interest on bitcoin is still increasing. Also with Google.

Here below's a 90-day worldwide chart via Google Trends. Looking good in my opinion.

A bera might say that people like to read about negative things. When a company is going bankrupt the google searches of its name are going up and the media coverage is increasing. Google trends is a double edged sword. It increases in both good and bad times. I'd be more happy if there was no interest because it would indicate capitulation.

but only a few are online around 8k

Doesn't matter since most people with an account are lurkers in the dark not wanting anyone to know they are actually browsing.

r/ethereum has just 417k users which I expected to be way more, especially after the ICO boom. Interesting for sure.

Too bad the r/btc page is in control of dirtbags. Not sure what the exact reason is that both pages haven't been created at the same time or owned by the same entities, but it's a shame. At least good to see that the right page is getting most of the growth. Smiley

There used to be this great stat site (see http://redditmetrics.com/r/bitcoin -> tab Total Subscribers) that showed the total number of cumulative subscribers over timer, and a few other things. Unfortunately,  the site stopped adding data in March 2018, although the historical data is still viewable there.

If the information provided by that site is correct, /r/Bitcoin had (dd/mm/yyyy):

02/01/2013 -> 13.239 subscribers
02/01/2014 -> 91.604 subscribers
02/01/2015 -> 147.073 subscribers
02/01/2016 -> 171.297 subscribers
01/01/2017 -> 198.612 subscribers
01/01/2018 -> 619.161 subscribers
04/03/2018 -> 759.794 subscribers
And now we know that 02/12/2018 -> 1.000.000 subscribers

The progression was very noticeable between 2017 and 2018, but largely concentrated on November 2017 onwards.

Good numbers will increase in the future
It remains to be translated into actual attention
(Interest is reflected in the market situation)
This is generally a step on the road to adoption.

I think that after another 10 years there will be no less than 1 billion people here.

I think this is an exaggerated number, to be honest. If by "1 billion here" you are talking about the BTCTalk forums, I don't think that's going to happen soon. I think it's hard to gather 1 Billion users even in stocks, which are way, way more popular than crypto markets and communities... Also keep in mind that a lot of users here have created throwaway/alt accounts.

If one billion would be gathered here/on Reddit, it would mean BTC and other cryptocurrencies will form a massive, insane market.

Congrats to everyone for joining the crypto community and making it so large on Reddit already. It's a huge progress in my opinion. Now we only need to get rid of those "BTC is dying" and FUD we see everywhere around us.

With the current situation of the bitcoin market, the number of bitcoin communities is increasing. That indicates, that the level of trust of people towards bitcoin has never receded. For me, that is something very extraordinary

That information looks to tell the story that we are all very familiar with already. 2017 was an extraordinary year in terms of Bitcoin being traded, discussed, researched and reported on. Quite realistically the biggest leap in terms of the sheer number of people that became aware of Bitcoin's existence to-date.
