try coca.  it's on Silk Road for very cheap (under $7 for 1 grams).

and it works in milk too.  or in coffee (i prefer tea and anise).

Coca or cocoa? cocoa come from cacao tree.

He is referring to Cocaine  Grin  Yeah Cocaine will give you an energy boost but it'll deplete your bank account and possibly land you in prison.   Cheesy

Cocaine is a banned soft drink.  actual (decocanized) coca leaves are legal in america

I'm on day two and I'm only using a paper filter.  They warn you not to use a paper filter but that's due to overflowing.  I have no idea what they mean, because my coffee machine is designed to produce 10 cups of coffee and thus making 4 cups of Crio doesn't come anywhere close to overflowing.

You brew it like your coffee - like if you like stronger coffee than use less water.

Straight Crio - it taste like dark chocolate but without the digusting texture or strong aftertaste,  a lot of people drink it straight.

I add Styvia to my Crio and it taste just like hot chocolate but only at 10 calories and with Theobromine for that energy boost.

It smells great - I brewed it like my regular morning coffee and forgot I brewed crio but then smelled the chocolate aroma.

Theobromine, unlike caffeine, is considered safe for pregnant women and children to drink and  yet they still get the energy boost.

I saw an advertisement for Crio and it peaked my interest.  Has anyone ever tried it?  I read it's a bitter taste (it's effectively roasted Dark Chocolate) but it's healthier than coffee and contains better energy.

I also read that it's "expensive" but looking at the packing price I already pay the same amount of money to drink Seattle's Best.

I cannot stand coffee, but this sounds good.
Perhaps I will start soon.

This taste much better than any coffee -- it is Cocoa! Smiley Do you like cocoa?

What a wonderful idea! I miss coffee very much as I can no longer drink it for medical reasons, so looking forward to trying this. I wonder how it would work using the Aztec morning chocolate recipe? Thank you very much for this post, very interesting and useful!

I used to get acid reflux also, my neck use to get burning sensations from the acid that will travel up to my neck, also the maya blend works very well for that.

this might be interesting? so does it compensate the sensation of coffee?

I think so.  A lot of people seemed to had quit coffee for this.  Look up theobromine, it's a potent alternative to caffine.

I don't know what you need substitute for coffee. Just don't drink it. I don't get why people are drinking coffee at all. I have never drank coffee in my life. Is it any good? From this thread I see that coffee is bad for your health.

Healthwise not really - it's inferior to cocoa and coffee screws with your system, people drink coffee for the energy (minus the decaf crowd)

It's history -  coffee has been consumed in the old world for a long time.

It's like asking why people in China eat white rice when quinoa is arguably as good in taste but healthier

Where to buy quinoa? I never know this in my entire life.

I buy mine at Costco and they have it in the grain section.  I didn't know about Quinoa until a health nut introduced me to it.  It's another "superfood" like cocoa and I eat quinoa (mixed with fruit in - and some people put chicken stock in it) everyday for lunch.  It's pretty tasty stuff.

For the energy you say? Did you know that eating apple for breakfast gives you more energy than cup of coffee? It is proven scientific fact. Drinking coffee just makes your liver's life harder.

Yes from a technical point of view - apple has all those carbs and sugars, but it doesn't contain the stimulants we attribute as being 'energy'.

I bought the dark cavalla at the store, which used to be the "French dark roast" (one of the favourites)

Smell:  It smells like a chocolate factory when brewed

Energy:  Gave me a strong kick.  There's definitely energy in this.

Flavour

-  First had it straight.  Just like dark chocolate but is palatable doesn't have that ew taste texture or aftertaste).  I then added almond milk and styvia and then it taste like milk chocolate / hot chocolate.  I bet if I put this in fridge it would be nice.

Despite the cost I think I found a coffee substitute.

I did mine with a paper filter even though it wasn't recommended but I still love it.

never tried it but it does seem like it would be a healthy alternative to drinking coffee.  Does this drink give a feeling of an energy boost?  I have a feeling the antioxidants would give a type of feeling but I'm curious what others who have tried it think.

Yes well.. I never drink it but as from what I read I believe it have a great energy boost for you after drinking and much much healthier than coffee.

Which recipe is that?  I couldn't find it on Google.

Supposedly you can reuse the cocoa for cooking or blending but that could be fattening and calorie rich?
