For the SAME price, I'd go with the 1080.

Almost identical hashrate at the same power level for almost identical efficiency, but better residual value and can be pushed to a hair higher hashrate if you choose to do so (but NOT a good idea on the Zotac Mini, those coolers are a bit marginal for a 1070 ti OR a 1080).

I normally buy the 1070 ti though because they NORMALLY cost about 10% less than a "same model" 1080 while being almost identical capability (except if you push them HARD then they "only" manage 95% or so at the HIGH end of the TDP range).

The 1070 ti boosts the GPU a hair higher than the 1080 when they have the same power available, since the 1080 has to split the power between more cores.
This seems to make up for, or slightly MORE than make up for, the higher core count the 1080 has.
It's a SMALL difference either way though.

VoskCoin was using DSTM to get to 4.7 efficiency, not EBWF - the testing I did that he refers to in that video and his thread used EBWF and was only gettting to about 4.5ish at best- and my more recent "fine tuning" testing didn't give substantially more, that 106 watt TDP point was very very close to the optimal (104 watts in my more recent testing is good for a HAIR more but close enough to be within the limits of test measurement).

I DID do some testing with DSTM yesterday on my 1070 ti rig - slight improvement over EBWF at the "efficient" point, but a lot more variable - and it showed no improvement or a LOSS compared to EBWF past about 124 watts (70% TDP).

Also keep in mind that the 1070 ti uses GDDR 5 vs the 1080 using GDDR 5x - which doesn't seem to affect equihash a LOT but might have some small effect.
Contrary to often stated opinion, memory clock DOES affect equihash noticeably on most NVidia cards it's commonly mined on - and the latency of 5x vs it's higher bandwidth can sometimes be an issue as ETH miners know well.

I'm in dilemma because of supposedly good power management of 1070ti. Couldn't find any definite testing on efficiency.
I'm not buying this. Both cards use exactly the same GP104 GPU, most likely 1070 Ti just gets "defective" chips from 1080s, the ones that didn't pass tests with all 20 SM clusters enabled (so one is disabled for 1070 Tis). Same stuff as with 1060/6 and 1060/3.
I don't see any reasons for 1070 Ti to be somehow more efficient than 1080. They're very close in performance though, so it's all up to the price difference. But if the price is exactly the same, why would you buy a slower card?

Cheesy

1080 is a higher end card than 1070, so if the price is exactly the same I'd say go with 1080. The only argument in favor of 1070 ti is the standard GDDR5 ram which means higher hashrate in ETH and Neoscrypt. We can safely forget about ETH cause if you're mining ETH with 1070s then you're doing it wrong — it's ~ equal in speed to AMD Polaris cards that cost 2 times less; there's just always a more profitable coin for higher-end nvidia cards to mine. With 1060s yeah, ETH might be OK, but 1070s are wasted on ETH. This only leaves the Neoscrypt. That is the only algo that I know of where 1070 Ti outperforms 1080. Every other algo out there is faster on 1080, and there's plenty of them.

I'd take 1080 in your case. If it would be noticeably more expensive then sure, 1070 Ti is a better deal. For the same price, 1080 makes more sense. They're pretty close in terms of performance though.

Thanks for your reply.
This is the same reasoning I'm having. 1080 just has to be a little bit better or at least equal to 1070ti.

So, the price being the same (or even 1080 being cheaper 1-2 euro) I think I'll go with 1080.
Still havent't decided though...

If you ever need more convincing, aside from all the previous posts, that the 1070ti is the better choice, you can go check out VoskCoin's review and video of the 1070ti:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/are-1070-tis-the-next-best-gpu-for-mining-47-sols-per-watt-2377787

Basically his testing finds that the 1070ti is actually the most power efficient card as of today (4.7 sols/watt tested on equihash using EWBF miner).

I'll recommend 1070ti all the way!
I have both of them rocking in the same rig.
They perform close to each other in all the algorithms that I've tried but 1070ti also rocks in ETH where-as 1080 does not.

It depends on what algorithm you'll choose. For instance 1070ti way better at Ethash and generally consumes less power.

I'd say go with 1070ti
the difference is too small in performance but price wise the 1070ti looks much better
also note that in neoscrypt algo it will outperform 1080 and nowadays there are a lot new coins on neoscrypt.

Thank you for your input!
I don't plan on doing ETH and as I wrote, I can get them for the exact same price.
I was considering 1070ti because of power consumption and efficacy in mining.

So how come any profitability calculator I look at says the most profitable coin for the 1070 is ETH/ETC?
Profitable coins don't often make it to calculators like whattomine. As soon as it appears on WTM everyone and their mom know about it, they all go mine it and average the profits for everyone else. Half the good coins don't show up on WTM main page.

Which coins specifically would you mine with 1070's?

Profitable coins don't often make it to calculator sites like whattomine. As soon as it appears on WTM and similar sites everyone and their mom know about it, they all go mine it and the profits go down to normal (or below normal) levels for everyone else. Half the good coins don't ever show up on sites like WTM, or they only show up days/weeks later, when it's not as profitable anymore.

Even whattomine suggests mining numerous neoscrypt coins and zec/zen over ETH/ETC

So what would you be mining if you had an 8 x 1070 rig?
Any equihash, neoscrypt, skein, or lyra coins. Or btx.

It can be the most profitable a couple days per year, like in the beginning of November when ETN mining started. Just better be prepared for everything.

True, but the other 363 days you're mining something else. Those 2 days just don't cover the difference (between 1070 ti and 1080) for the rest of the year. And cryptonight performance of 1070 is so bad compared to amd cards that I wasn't even mining ETN with them within those 2 days, too close to the profits I was getting from other coins.

Why would you ever mine cryptonight on 1070 Ti?

So 1070ti is significantly better in ethash, neoscrypt and cryptonight and a little bit slower in other algorithms. I would pick it.

The 1070Ti is also very efficient in ZEC mining.

Hello everybody,

I can buy Zotac 1080 Mini and Zotac 1070ti Mini for the same price.
Which one would you recommend for a 6 gpu rig?

Thanks!
