Anyone who paid attention over the night know what happened to the wall? Did it get pulled or did we buy right through it?

In all seriousness it very well might be, because there's little logical reasons to sell that much coins on mtgox right now... On an exchange where you can get your usd maybe, but not on mtgox...

It could be arbitrage between gox and bitstamp to bring them back into alignment. The gap is closing, now only $3-ish difference.

Alternative hypotheses:

1. He actually wants to buy a certain amount of coins below this price. So, the wall prevents the price form going up and he buys everything that appears under his wall in the orderbook, then lifts the wall when he has enough.

2. Someone found his old wallet with 10k coins, similarly to that Norwegian guy, and decided to cash out immediately. Without checking how best to go about it. Fortunately, he did not click 'sell now'.

3. Gox is gambling with our coins in hopes of solving their probable liquidity problem.

and the remaining 6500 he is now showing at 266.9.

All he wants is cashing out at this level. I guess no move upwards until he is done

Good game. The trickier part will be to get the USD out of MtGox

He wont get it out of MtGox, so new wall under 260, cool

It's my understanding that the gox order-book shows all currencies, so they may not be trading to USD, but some other currency that he can withdraw.

I guess if you have 10,000 BTC now is the best time in the history of BTC to profit.  I think it is only going to keep going up with China on board now though so a little patience would be wise perhaps.  Maybe this person missed the opportunity in April and was determined to sell the next time it got to $266.  If I had 10,000 BTC I might be tempted to sell some too. Wink  But no such luck unfortunately.

But if this person is thinking of selling now and buying back lower later that might be a little risky.  Are we really sure it is going to go down again or are we priming the pump for a massive explosion?  I think we have just skimmed the surface of what is in store.  I am bullish though.  Grin

He managed to sell 3.5k out of the 10k, but he may be running out of time.

Why? The longest time will be waiting for the Gox dollars anyway.

But I agree that he probably sold ~3.5k of his 10k stash already (and he is also kinda nuts with his wall orders, it's funny to watch).

I think whoever is doing that wall-planting game of placing a wall and removing it once the first buys reach it, just "lost" 1k of his 10k stash (they got bought instantly).

They would have dumped it already....

If that wall goes there is almost nothing left on gox (unless someone throws in more)

That it isn't in the orderbook doesn't mean it isn't there. It can also mean that people have faith in bitcoin going to the moon and not risk losing their coins by making sell orders Smiley

But I think new orders will pop up when the wall is gone.

They're not new coins, that's half the existing coins on gox. When they're gone, what will the last 10k go for?

That's not half the existing coins on gox, it's half the existing coins on the order book. There could be many times that number in gox, but not on the book.

This is the dynamic I predicted a few weeks ago, which looks like it's playing out:

there's a good chance at China forcing the West kicking and screaming through the traumatic memories of $266, which will be a good thing because the West may not have to deal with it, instead getting lifted up and carried past it by China.

China doesn't care about MtGox ATH that much, and the rest of the world doesn't care about 1600 round number of yuan much, etc. So we should see less stickiness at round numbers with this nice balance between the 3+ exchanges.

As for the huge wall, it's to be expected at an ATH where so many people have bad memories of failing to sell or not being able to sell. It could also be Roger Ver or another Bitcoin saint throwing their weight around a bit in an effort to keep the rally at a sustainable pace.

China didnt give a flying fuck and was first to recover (early) to 1590, only 0.5% from its high. Stamp followed with a recovery to $253, only 1% below its high. Finally now gox is following. There are 1300BTC of new bids including a 608. Oh there goes the buying.

Buy into it and watch it get pulled.  Cheesy

Probably. I usually don't believe in market manipulation most of the time, but that seller is either trying to discourage buying or they are just imbecilic. And I actually think it might be the latter, given the fact that they are selling 10k BTC on Gox anyway. Unless its some stupid Japanese person who doesn't realize that he/she are hurting the market by putting up a wall that big.

Or Mark himself.  Cheesy

Surely it won't be withdrawn, it's just a guy who wants to sell 10k in one piece risking the market turning down from it. No shock action intended here. And surely he wants to be stuck with mtgoxUSD. Cheesy
