If you promise to pay back in BTC i imagine it would be better, paying back in USD will return to the lender less than they lend you, unless you correct for the exchange rate by the time you pay back.

There was a site that used to give you .5 BTC to get you started. I can't remember the name though and they're probably dead now that BTC is $18. Can anyone remember? faucet or something?

At this point, 2-3 may be a pretty tall order but maybe someone has .1 or .2 to toss around. Unfortunately, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you right now. If anyone has 2-3 to give away, I could use some too

If you just want to test out bitcoins, go to the testnet - the faucet there should still have a few thousand coins.
Keep in mind though that the testnet is just what it says in the name: NOT bitcoin! You won't be able to cash out, but you can try the client if you want.
