Older members were helping newbies before merit I don't see reason why would they stop now. This is forum. It is meant for help and discussion. You are talking like forum will stop working Roll Eyes
Agree. Helpful users always (most of the time) be helpful. Nothing can change them, affect or prevent them to be helpful. With or without merit system, they are helpful users.

I like movies that show how society will eventually break down.

Please fix your grammar.  Future tense is incorrect here, as is your usage of the adverb “eventually”.

The post is exactly how I intended it to be worded.  Smiley

Society cannot continue even another hundred years the way we are now.

I thought it clear, my implication was past-tense.  You are most of a hundred years out of date for the collapse of anything which could be properly called a functioning “society”.  Some might say, more than a hundred years.  The problem is that those living in a post-apocalyptic desert of downfallen, zombie-like anthropoids have already forgotten what it means to be human—what it meant, once upon a time.

By comparison, Roman society was a zombified rotting corpse for four or five centuries before the civil machine built by long-gone forebears ran out of momentum.  I can see how greater technology could have accelerated the ultimate downfall in various ways.

What’s left is to secure yourself, take care of your own, live by honour alone whereas law is meaningless, keep busy with something productive, and try to have some fun.

We would all be better off as hunter gatherers.

Hell, no.  Primitivist glorification of savagery is fit only for savages.  It would be better for so-called “humanity” to go extinct—a not unlikely end, at this rate.

Non-native speaker stopping by. What's wrong with his wording? Future tense is used for making predictions, right? Could you elaborate?

It was a sociopolitical statement wrapped with dry humour in the guise of a grammar flame.  There was nothing wrong with Vod’s grammar, insofar as it properly expressed what he meant to say.  I was subtly suggesting that the event he described in future tense is an eventuality which already occurred, past perfect.

My wording was correct because I was making a prediction.  I believe nullius has a more optimistic view of the future than I do.  Smiley

To the contrary!  You have it backwards.  I wish I had just pushed through the post which comprises the first part above.  I kept having to pause and go add replies to additional posts.  This happens to me all too often.

“Optimism is cowardice.” — Spengler (writing most of a hundred years ago)

Now, this discussion is far off-topic.  If you want to take it up in Politics & Society, then... no, actually, I don’t.  I think I should leave it at that, and go do something productive and/or have fun.

Society cannot continue even another hundred years the way we are now.  We have our first major city running out of water this year.  India is slowly cutting off Pakistan's water supply because they need the water too - and they are both nuclear armed.

"Zombies" are an excellent method of showing how biological warfare would break out.

Greed is killing the world.  No man should be able to own millions of acres of land.  The system is completely ridiculous.  Bankers creating money out of nothing enslaving citizens.  Governments owning huge amounts of land, WHY SHOULD YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR PLANET EARTh.  You should not be able to own land in ridiculous amounts except your house.  People are driven by materialistic mindsets that enslave us.  Our possessions end up owning us.  Rich oil arabs doing anything to stop free energy, corporations polluting the earth in name of profits.

We would all be better off as hunter gatherers.

How is the movie if I may ask? Judging by the name it looks like  a suspense movie. Smiley

28 Days Later, and the sequel, 28 Weeks Later, are both excellent "fast-type" zombie movies.  I like movies that show how society will eventually break down.

Someone said 28 days, I was thinking of the Sandra bullock movie, not the zombie one lol.

Nice to see people talking to each other but if they talked on something more meaningful, it would have better.
If they talked then we wouldn't have merit. I don't see which part of my topic is funny.
These " One week after merit system", "2 weeks after" and so on are funny.
My first choice was "merit wars : theymos strikes backKiss
Please make it so. Then for next week, "merit wars: return of satoshi" ooooooohhh stoked

but I guess that might kill the Beginners section. newbies can't reward elders with merit so that would be no point for lot of guys to hang out there. they gotta do somethin with it

“Elders” reward people who answer questions and help others.  At least, it is so in Development & Technical Discussion; I have not been in Beginners & Help.  In Dev & Tech, I have been awarded much merit by experts (including the mod) who themselves certainly did not need the answers I gave, but evidently appreciated that I was providing correct answers which helped others.  I would expect Beginners & Help to work similarly on this particular point.

Now we have newbies posting lengthy rambling posts just to earn merit.  Then we have older pseudo intellectuals posting lengthy posts to earn merit which are still just shitposts.

A longer post doesn't mean its better , short, sweet, and to the point is better. Smiley

it was a joke related to the movie with the same name (28 days later)

Regarding members talking to each other about merit system, it is good to seem interacting. Bots are now operating on some other forum I guess.

Not sure about 28 days but in 2 months, you will see major changes to this new system for sure. This prediction is based on the recent comments made by the admin on this forum.

I noticed something which is very strange for this forum.

People are talking to each other!
People are alive! They are not bots!

Not all tbh. But I see improvement. At least when we are discussing about merit, meta was so lonely forum area.

Whole merit deal is good and positive, people should talk to each others, but at the same time it is very sad that someone had to point that.

Maybe the bots are becoming more sentiment. There no way in the world there are humans on bitcointalk. It where bitcoins talk to each other, right. Smiley

Then there are the report topics: reports for merit trading, reports for copy/paste, reports for anything. Were they here before?
If not, then they are again a form of hunting merit points by hunting people. But maybe I am wrong about this.

Obviously the ones about merit farming were not here before. The threads about copy paste plagiarism and those in reputation about cheating campaigns with alt accounts certainly were. They are done by people who want to clean up the forum and as there was no merit system then you can't really accuse them of that motivation.

I cannot  compare what is now with what was before, because I was member of the forum just for some days prior to the implementation of merit points.
However, just by looking at the meta forum, I see that lots and lots of people make topics here in hope of getting some points.
Plenty of them are exactly about merit points (praising or hating the system) ... erm not plenty ... almost all of them.

My first choice was "merit wars : theymos strikes backKiss

That would have been a good choice. I wouldn't waste much time arguing with kapustin, looking at the way he's rattled out 4 anti merit system posts in his first 3 hours here I would guess it's a disgruntled account farmer.

It's almost as funny as seeing an account that only signed up today being dismissive of the changes that have occurred on this forum in the last couple of weeks.
