Crossfire is not needed. I usually try to make sure that all of my 5970s have a female on the outside of the case. The brand of your card doesn't make a difference.
I recently got a 5970 ASUS and have been looking around about the potential it has to offer together with the same model of another brand. Has anybody done a crossfire like this before? Could you double the Mhash/s you had with different brands of the same GPU?
