From what I have seen Silk Road is thriving and is facing little resistance from law enforcement. If we put ourselves in their shoes, what can they do? Set up stings on buyers, most of which are buying for personal use. They can't touch the suppliers, unless they accept moneygram or something stupid like that. The big players are pretty much completely safe.

Since when do cops warn potential criminals to ensure they aren't arrested by their foolproof sting?

My guess is if Australian police were that effective at catching SR users they wouldn't say anything and just let the thousands of arrests pile up before announcing the massive "victory"

Good remark!

My guess is if Australian police were that effective at catching SR users they wouldn't say anything and just let the thousands of arrests pile up before announcing the massive "victory" in the "war on chemical compounds which are organized into structures deemed undesirable by authorities".  One person was arrested and there is no evidence that SR, TOR, or Bitcoin had anything to do with that arrest.  It could be anything from the guy was an idiot and talked too much  to he had bad luck and one of his "packages" was damaged enroute alerting the authorities.

Note: D&T isn't responsible if I am completely wrong and you end up getting busted. Wink

If Aussie cops know where your Bitcoins go, who is to say American or European authorities are in the dark?
Fail. They don't know (or care) where your bitcoins go, what they do know (with the help of Customs and the Post Office) is where your packages go and what's in them. And that's all they need to know to make the arrest.
