I attended the 1st Sydney CryptoParty a bit over a week ago.. Bitcoin didn't come up as a general topic (they focused on Tor & GPG) , but I did discuss it with a couple of people.
The CryptoParty scene does seem like a good fit for Bitcoin.
Mat Holroyd from the article has posted some preliminary notes for an 'Intro to Bitcoin' to be discussed at the next Melbourne cryptoparty:
