I prefer the series 1 holograms simply because they are the original. When I think of Casascius coins I picture that laser printed hologram over the little windows.

Thanks for making this thread HK! I am sure many had the same questions you had but never voiced it. Cheers!  Wink
My pleasure my friend. I've had numerous talks with Lesbian Cow over this topic and I COMPLETELY understand his points. He prefers the S2. I don't blame him. It's a personal preference and rightfully so. I find the S2 stunning as well likely due to the upgraded hologram. I guess what I'm truly trying to say here is I find that ALL Bit Nickels are spectacular coins. It's a honor to be able to just own even one. Much like the 25btc coins that don't command a premium but in my my opinion they should at least get a bit more than the love they get now. So what their not the sexiest coin out there. Who cares?!!!!!!...But that's a different topic for different day! Thank you all for the feedback! Keep it coming. This is EXACTLY why I love this community! Ask away and ye shall receive!!! My kinda place!

Agree with the above.  Have never seen a difference in premium for either of the nickles.  Although not one of my favorites I do like the simplicity of the brass coins including the 5er

The Stone the masons rejected was the cornerstone.

Hi All,
All great points and kinda in line with what I expected and would have expected when I asked the question. I just figured its best to always get the overall community's feedback and thoughts. The more info the better in my eyes. I also think it's strange they were never a big hit in terms of premiums but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I personally love the 5's. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and please feel free to continue to share your thoughts opinions or add ons as they come to you. Cheers all!

As Blazed said, and they have been around longer than I have by a wide margin, I do not recall the Cas 5's having any different premium between s1 and s2 at any point.  I personally prefer the s2 as a bit rarer and I prefer the look of the s2 holo, but investment wise I think both are the same regarding premiums.

Blazed, lately (maybe 18 months or so) the 2011 1.0 s2 has commanded a higher premium than the 2011 s1 in my observations and sales.  I think the reason is that there have been many more s1's for sale with the BTC price rise as there are simply many more available.  So while most collectors have snagged an s1 if they wanted one many do not have an s2 and still want one.

I have never seen the 5BTC series 2 command any extra premium over the error. Both nickels have never really carried much premium for whatever reason. The 2011 brass single errors even though they are pretty common have always carried a larger premium over the series 2 (less common). The nickel was always sort of a flop sales wise IIRC.

So according to the Elias Ahonen manual the Series 2 is a bit rarer. According to the best website tool to check for peeled Casascius coins the Series 2 is also still a bit rarer than the Series 1 coin as can be seen here....https://casascius.ludvigart.com/status/

My question is what are your thoughts on the the Series 1 vs Series 2 5BTC BitNickel coins? The Series 1 is an "error" coin so you can use that or don't use that in your thoughts and feedback. I plan to acquire both. My question here is what is more valuable in your mind and why? The more details and information provided the better and certainly more appreciated. I think both 5BTC coins are seriously undervalued and underrated. These are spectacular coins both series. Please give me your thoughts as I am looking so forward to getting every bit of feedback I can regarding both of these special beauties! Thanks in advance and again here is the book from Elias Ahonen link so you can compare to the best tool listed above that tracks everything in real time. The book Elias wrote while outstanding is a bit out of date. Thanks in advance.

Best tool I've found to track everything Casascius in real time: https://casascius.ludvigart.com/status/
Feel free to do just more than look at what I'm asking as this site offers it ALL from A-Z Casascius related! I only linked one function of the tool which provides endless functionality.

And here's the link to the Elias Ahonen book that is amazing but a bit outdated now. Still a very incredible book from a guy with a plethora of knowledge and a true physical collectible asset with a great reputation:
https://www.cryptonumist.com.

Apparently he has a new book coming out pretty soon which I recommend everyone buy if interested in any sort of physical coins!

Looking forward to any and all feedback and constructive criticism. Thanks for your time.
