A Mastercard spokesman said: “Mastercard takes online safety and security seriously. We work closely with our partners to ensure the best possible experience when using electronic payments.”

Then they do nothing, and business continue as usual.

I will be pretty disappointed with Google if they do this. This is the kind of behaviour you expect from Paypal and credit card companies, not Google.

mostly it's just the sort of behaviour you'd expect from the U.S. government

which corporation they decide to channel their bullshit through is mostly irrelevant

I don't understand - What 'discussions' does google need to have? Is the lack of a bitcoin mention eerie, or am I just used to bitcoin everything these days when it comes to non-standard internet payments?

Wont google have to cut its own funding since you can search for .torrent files and other "illegal" links ?
