I am endlessly amazed at the energy Joerg has put in to building the Bitcoin Kiez in Berlin,

Every metro area needs a Joerg, to serve as a local "Mayor of Bitcoin".

The humble supernode in Helsinki recognizes our German overlords. Please send a delegate to our summit, to accept our allegiance.

This could be the Tahrir Square moment for Bitcoin.

Let's talk governance, lipstick, and pigs.
This could be the Tahrir Square moment for Bitcoin.

edit: probably not the best analogy, nobody has died for lack of Bitcoins.

lots of quote gold in this article ...

"There is not a prototype Bitcoin payer, it's random people. Not only nerds, let me put it that way."  - Florentina Martens

"It could be from a science fiction novel, but the fact is we have it in the here and the now,"  - Jeff Gallas

"I like the fact that Bitcoin scares people in suits, because if this thing were to really take off, it would bankrupt a lot of bankers." - Wilko Bereit

"Every day we don't use a system like Bitcoin, we actually vote for the current system to continue" - Joerg Platzer

"Bitcoin represents an opportunity to transform the way we deal with the flows of wealth and human energy." - Mike Gogulski

Wow that's a fantastic real-world showcase of just a few owners using coin wonderfully.  If we could have even a fraction of something like that in every town, it'd be "here".

they do instantly with 0 confirmations afaik. If someone really wants to dine and dash in a pub, there's been a much easier method for 5000 years: just stand up and go.

Fantastic positive coverage thanks to Joerg Platzer (joecoin), Jeff, Mike Gogulski and all the others who appear in this video. I am endlessly amazed at the energy Joerg has put in to building the Bitcoin Kiez in Berlin, it's a real PR coup for the whole project. Especially brilliant are the quotes from Florentina about how there's no typical Bitcoin user who comes to her shop - it's not just for nerds. Maybe we should have a part of her quote up on the quotes section of the press center?

Also very pleased to see how prominent the p2p Android app is. Andreas and I put a lot of work into it over the past couple of years and it's nice to see truly decentralized mobile wallets be promoted like that.
