Google Kipochi - bringing Bitcoin to M-Pesa!  M-Pesa is somewhat limited by region and/or at the whim of particular telco operators; Bitcoin represents a natural extension of the concept.  Think African traders cashing in their M-Pesa minutes for Bitcoins to trade or send money internationally.  Exciting times for the otherwise unbanked.

be carefull of Kipochi. Right now there is no way to get BTC out you can only "transfer" numbers to another mobile number.

WU charges very heavy fees for sending remittances to Africa (10%+ in some cases). No wonder that the Africans are shifting to Bitcoin.

Remittance is the main factor which is pushing upward the use of Bitcoin in Africa. However, I hope BTC will be used in other sectors as well in the near future.

All the talk of Bitcoin in recent years has overshadowed the real e-finance revolution: in Africa, India and now Eastern Europe, a service called M-Pesa has replaced banking for millions of people who don't have or, in fact, even need a bank account.

Great news from Africa!!
