Giving 100 like this to all MIT student feels like when the credit cards spammed many households with free credit cards with the purpose of increasing adoption.

Well.... they are not giving them the amount in fiat currency. They are giving them $100 worth of Bitcoins. I agree that a majority of them will immediately convert the coins to cash. But there will be a minority who are going to keep those coins for the future needs.

Great attempt from the part of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to help the students. But they should have limited this to the students who are not financially well off.  Smiley

Why?  The "well off" students will see the value of Bitcoin perhaps and then invest, or better, talk their rich parents into investing too. Wink

Putting coins in more hands,  kudos MIT.

not sure that is a good option to limit who gets the coins based on the financial status.  Don't think that sends a good message.  I think it is good that more people will have the experience of using Bitcoin.

OK... I take back that statement. Let all the 4,218 undergraduate students enjoy the crypto-currency.  Grin I hope that at least 5% (200+) of them will become the new crypto-converts.
