Actually this is great news. There has been a lot of demand for the coins, and if this auction successfully goes ahead, then the Bitcoin exchange rates could zoom upward. The legality which comes with this sale is another plus point.  Grin

I see what you did there. But yeah, trusting the government with anything, let alone a cryptocurrency transaction on the order of millions of dollars? Not in my lifetime, nope.

The U.S. Marshals Service is going ahead with an auction of US$18 million in bitcoins even though it inadvertently leaked the identities of potential bidders.

"The auction is proceeding as planned," a spokeswoman for the service wrote in an email early Friday following revelations that the service had leaked the email addresses of people interested in the auction. It remains set for June 27.

You know given the e-mail gaffe I think I might require a "proof of competence" for whoever would be responsible for handing me over my batch of bitcoins where I actually in a position to bid.  Couldn't have those puppies getting shot to a DOGE coin address on accident! :p
