I'm shocked aswell, normally the bankruptcy procedure does not allow 'preferred creditors' which is essentially what has happened here. If I was an unpaid mt.gox creditor, I would launch a legal challenge to this.

Agreed; I am an unpaid mtgox creditor & I'll offer you 1/3 of anything this would get me as bounty for doing the homework on this.

PM me if interested.

wow, maybe mark was sleeping and didn´t notice that Wink

Well if they had access to that address they had to give him back or they will have to face another scam attempt.

As he knew where he did send his coins. He knew what address to look at from blockexplorer so gox could scam or give it back - they choose to give it back = gj.

I am shocked he got it back. The Gox legal team could have said you are added to our list of creditors.

It's kinda huge mistake : send $500k to wrong address ...
I though that reach people are always taking an extra care while transfering such a huge amounts Smiley but perhaps I was wrong.

Kind of vague as to how he got them back ?
or did I not read the article right ?

"...the Bitcoin community on Reddit advised TheDJFC to hire a lawyer to reach out to the bankruptcy trustee that’s now in charge of Mt. Gox.
After taking those steps, TheDJFC was able to recover the bitcoins,.."

Looks like the lawyer helped, but how much did that cost him?

Lol. "Helped". The lawyers probably just threatened them with even more legal battles.

That is awesome that he got them back. I felt terrible for him when I read the thread about it. I suspect he will be a bit more careful about addresses now.

Of course the article is going to be vague, these journalists know even less about recovering lost Bitcoins than I do, even if an expert explained things to them they wouldn't post it up because they wouldn't be able to comment on it.

The Bitcoin community on Reddit verified TheDJFC’s story and helped him determine that the address where he sent the Bitcoin belonged to Mt. Gox. It’s not clear whether or not the Mt. Gox address was one that TheDJFC once controlled, but it was quite clear that the bitcoins were stuck there.
