It wouldn't surprise me if bitcoin booms in some eastern European countries, especially with immigrants sending money back home to their families etc. Could really help people avoid bank fees.

Sounds like a "get out of Romania" plan orchestrated by the Gypsies to get a leg up and then bounce right on out of there.  Grin Either way, good, good, good.

If government "Ban" bitcoin, they can only kill the merchant markets. So you will find it difficult to buy something local.

You can still aquire bitcoins and save it in cold storage. You can go on a extended holiday, in a country that excepts BTC and pay for your tickets in BTC and the hotel and have some spare to buy some food.

So the BTC is not worthless, because you can live like a king abroad.  Grin

It's the daily survival in your local country, that would become tricky, if it's banned by your government.  Angry

Bitcoin is finding a very tempting proposition and acceptance is growing significantly in Romania, one of Europe’s poorest countries for years but now a country on the verge of an economic rebound. The country has literally exploded with Bitcoin startups and related activity during the last several months.

There is now a Bitcoin ATM in the capital of Bucharest with more planned and the country has its own Bitcoin Exchange in the western city of Oradea which claims to have more than 2,000 registered clients and more than 1.1 million Euros in transaction in only seven months of operation. The owner of the country’s first ATM, George Rotariu, says about the burgeoning new industry:
