That is a very long and decent debate. Thanks for posting. Change the date on the thread title. It should be [2014-9-13], not in August.

That is wrong too.  See https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/post-format-yyyy-mm-dd-site-headline-246823

It should be 2014-09-13  - no brackets, not in August, two digit month, plus site plus headline.

E.g.:
POST FORMAT: YYYY-MM-DD SITE - HEADLINE

2014-08-14 Cointelegraph.com - Is The Paypal/Braintree Deal Good For Bitcoin

The format is completely ignored now by almost everyone now, but if you are going to correct the format, at least do it properly.

And this is good for bitcoin.  Anyone using bitcoin is good for bitcoin.

You are correct. Why did everybody start using brackets?

I guess not reading and not caring about it.

Paypal was not influential in this decision, according this person.

That's what I thought about this whole process as well. Paypal has nothing to do with this decision, but it is good that they didn't put up any additional obstacles. The credit should go to the Braintree board members who gave the go ahead for this step. At the same time, it is too early to say that Paypal has shed its inhibitions about the digital currency.

Yeh I'm not holding my breath for PP accepting it anytime soon. They've said that they probably will implement it etc but until they come out and say that definitely are integrating it then I'm sure it'll be a long time before they actually do.

Of course it's good. Any more adoption in any form is great for bitcoin. Now all we need is it to go well for them and ebay and paypal will finally  adopt it too, and that really will be great for bitcoin.

Me: So how much of a pain in the ass was it to deal with Paypal on this bitcoin issue?
Braintree Employee: Not at all. We told them that we wanted to do it and they pretty much just said go for it.

So, if that is true, Paypal was neither an impetus, nor a hindrance, for this decision.

They're probably just really interested to see how it could work and it's a safe experiment for them. If all goes smoothly hopefully they'll take the plunge and implement it directly into Paypal somehow.

Well, if they accept BTC and they are the vehicle, we will drive it.  Grin

At this stage, PayPal are using Braintree as a punch bag. They take the punch for PayPal.  Sad

I actually met a Braintree employee who had been with the company since its inception. This was at a meetup.com group a few weeks ago. He said that they had been very interested in using bitcoin for several years already and were just waiting to see if investors would start backing the network. Now that large VC funding is the norm, Braintree decided to go ahead and implement. Paypal was not influential in this decision, according this person.

Quote
With the news that Paypal's subsidiary Braintree will begin accepting Bitcoin payments, much of the Bitcoin community is full of excitement and lofty dreams of another big boom. But is the news actually good for Bitcoin?

We have decided to pose the question to two of our writers here at CoinTelegraph: Tone Vays and Ian DeMartino. We are going to attempt something new here, a text, by-email debate inspired by the popular Lincoln-Douglas Debate format on this very issue.

Ian DeMartino will be arguing in favor of the statement while Tone Vays will be taking the opposing viewpoint.
