I agree that bitcoin could play an important role in Philippines. I know a lot of seamen are Filipino and they send money back home all the time using western union. Think of the all the fees they could safe.

I think bitcoin industry is still long way away from competing with credit cards or even PayPal as far as remittances are concerned.

I give it 5 years for smartphones to be so cheap and infrastructure coming online in the third world, that banking by yourself becomes possible for poor people. Imagine their power.

Not many know how bitcoins can be exchanged or used but Nick Sullivan of ChangeCoin believes that with time, more people will appreciate using bitcoins to purchase things online. He added that with many overseas Filipinos sending their money back to the Philippines, they will appreciate using bitcoins.
