Thanks for giving me the proper scientific word for it Tongue yes, I think it is a good idea by itself, but the problem is Branson and his company have a reputation for being outright liars, I'd love to see some real scientific effort going true proper space flight for sure.

Surely it is a step in the right direction, whether you like Branson or not, projects like his bring attention to the possibilities of space tourism to commercial interests because he has shown that people will pay a lot of money to get themselves "outside of the atmosphere", some of these are very smart individuals that know exactly what the limitations are.

I don't mind it that much, it just pisses me off because it's a bit like saying that's its okay to bullshit people about Bitcoin and say it does things that it actually can't do in order to get people to use it, I don't believe in that kind of logic, if people aren't interested they just aren't interested. If you're going to do space flight, do it the proper way like the moon landing, don't do it through some bullshit marketing campaign like Branson is and lie about what your technology is actually capable of.

The really annoying thing is I think a lot of the media realise this and I remember some of them just use the title space flight to get peoples attention and then explain it just puts you in the atmosphere for a few seconds but it's still a really dishonest way of doing things.

Is Virgin using Bitpay or Coinbase or are they just accepting bitcoin payments manually?

I assume Branson's cool with keeping bitcoins, so I wonder if he's holding any bitcoins on Virgin Galatic's balance sheet at year end.  It's probably a private company, yes?

I think they've only sold one place on Galactic via Bitcoins. No idea whether they used a payment processor or just sent directly. I guess it was more about getting some free advertising for Branson / Virgin Galactic - not that I'm opposed to that or anything.

the article said 5-6 flights for bitcoins now.

While it's nice to see another big investor and business taking an interest in Bitcoin the scientific part of me truly hates Branson for ranting on about his 'Virgin Galactica', 'Space Plane' bullshit when really it's only capable of flying up outside the atmosphere for a few minutes before being forced back down to earth again. When they actually make a real spaceship capable of deep space travel then I'll be interested >_< otherwise he's just bullshitting us like he did with Virgin Media's 'fibre optic' connections and the media all gobbled that one up like morons too.

Suborbital flight is meaningful in itself, if they can travel across the Atlantic in less than one hour and cut the cost to something like $100,000 per person, then I would say all glories to them.

Also the PR part is important, the worldwide decline of interest in space exploration is pathetic, anyone tries to rekindle it should be encouraged.

The price will get lower as the years pass. I'd love to go into space at some point in my lifetime, and especially if I could pay with Bitcoins, but I wouldn't shell out all that money just for 5 minutes in space.
