Fusion's Felix Salmon delves into the seedy underbelly of the Bitcoin world and comes up with the real problem with cryptocurrency: the community is 96% men.

LoL  Grin ....... too stupid sry...

Yes, because only MEN can be seedy and corrupt!

ROFL! If there's one good thing that will come out of the American election is that when Hilary Clinton gets elected women everywhere will finally realise that women can be just as corrupt as men when given power.

I don't get his point. How does bitcoin being 96% male dominated mean bitcoin is going nowhere? I'm sure most technological advances start off being highly male dominated but over time the ratio of men to women will get better.

The Shills are running out of stones to throw now... If child porn, drugs, crime and terrorism is not working for them, they jump on the Gender wagon.  Roll Eyes

If they can turn women against it, they would surely win 60% of the battle. I think women is smarter than that... they will not fall for FUD like this. { This should actually anger them, and inspire them to proof them wrong }

My wife just laugh at this FUD.   Grin Grin Grin

Thanks for sharing all the articles!

But what about stocks, gold, the financial world in general. Are those going nowhere either because of the dominant male percentages? Right.
It is normal that woman are not interested at technological, financial and complicated things. They want the easy, convenient  and cheap things. I think one day Bitcoin is all around the world, one of the standard payments and popular investment tools. I will have no doubt that most of women will use bitcoin.

So many talks about Bitcoin users being mainly male... But not many people doing things to attract female population. Everyone keeps talking about Bitcoin services, but I rarely see them directed to women! Just open something like a makeup store for Bitcoin... It won't attract a huge load of women, but it's a start.

You don't need to open the 'bitcoin door' for women, the door are wide open for everyone.

Whether anyone likes it or not we are not 'all the same' (gender-wise). Women are much less interested in technology, it's a fact, and disproportion is huge.

Opening make-up store itself won't have any effect. To encourage person who is not eager to learn new tech stuff (man or woman) you'd need to first provide a user-friendly way of purchasing and storing btc (likely from trusted and well-known 3rd party) + give them incentive to use it (ie discount on make-up products).

Here's a good response to that article:

Think there aren't women in bitcoin? Think again. https://fortune.com/2015/04/24/women-in-bitcoin/

Anyway, I'm in IT since 2001 or so, it's a sausage fest and it didn't stop the industry from thriving, it won't stop bitcoin.

Here's Salmon:

Bitcoin, at its core, is an attempt to solve big socioeconomic problems through technology. But so long as it remains an overwhelmingly male domain, it’s going to continue to concentrate on the economic problems, while missing the big social problems. Which means that it’s going to continue going nowhere.

It's hard to have a currency that leaves out 50% of the population.
