Decentralize the mining farms operations to the homes to substitute the heating requirements.
The mining farm, can pay for their part of the electricity and internet, and subsidize some for the user, from the savings they are getting from the reduced cooling cost. I will welcome such a device as a consumer. ^Hint^

Nice move maybe our street lights will use this. Mining in the night time and storing energy for the night use. Could be on to something big enough here to mine during the evening across the nation and having local councils supporting it and maybe using the funds to put back into the community at the sometime as making more people aware of bitcoin. Even id buy one for the sake of it being a light bulb looks good.

I like that they're doing this to market bitcoins to everyday people. There's not exactly much marketing going on in recent times and thus no interest has been building outside of the companies looking to make use of the blockchain itself.

This is a stupid idea. The lightbulb gets hot and the heat produced from mining is wasted. They should make a mining kettle or mining cup warmer whose primary function is to produce heat.

I suggest refrigerators as the next household appliance/item that should be rendered capable of mining.
I would air-conditioning/heat systems but that's an idea already out there and it would create seasonally fluctuating mining, maybe in some unforeseen important way. Refrigerators, however, are always powered and turned on. I want mine to mine.

I did see an artical recently in the UK regarding toasters mining BTC, I can't see this ever being profitable for the individual, I would guess all the mining would feed back to the company and then maybe reach the consumer in terms of cheaper products/bills etc. A pretty cool idea though in this age of the internet of things, the possibilities are endless, hair dryers, fridges and so on. It would be great if someone could create some kind of universal add on to power sockets that would feed back to a central point and then the consumer could get some compensation based on the appliance and time used, could be a real money maker.
One for the Apprentice I think.

It is a very good concept, but I fail to see how it would be profitable for the consumer. If it was a wall mounted electric heater, full of ASIC's ....I could have been more happy.
The ASIC's provide the heat and some income for the consumer. How many bulbs do you need to show any Satoshi's?

IMO any business or money conscious person should evaluate how many bucks (or BTC) could get from a BTC mining bulb lamp compared with how many bucks would be saved with a energy efficient/energy saving light bulbs (thus, bucks could be reinvested in BTC via any exchange). The same reasoning would apply to any ASIC used as space heater since they may not, however, be more cost-effective than central heating systems when they are used beyond one or two small areas in a home or business. Accordingly to the US DoE estimates an electric heater when used to heat a whole home or business, costs more than double the cost of using gas furnaces to heat the same area. Would BTC price increase so much to allow ASICs to be an efficient way to replace space heaters or to allow BTC-mining light bulbs to become an efficient replacement for common light lamps?
I would like to collect at least some of such BTC-mining light bulbs, however.

I'm guessing it doesn't hash very fast, but if they can make the lightbulb last a really long time that might be ok. The original lightbulb Edison made still works, was designed to never burn out...
Anyways... Looks like this is going to be more novelty than anything. Unless huge industries decide to go all in. Light all their facilities with it. They might make a few btc.
