Google should implement a system where developers are forced to digitally sign any release that gets published onto the PlayStore and this signature should be checked and validated each time a download takes place, either by the PlayStore or through GooglePlay on the device. So there should be a verification check each time you download an app to confirm that the actual file originated from the developer and that the file has not been altered in any way or form since it has been uploaded.

Not techie so unable to explain it better but I guess those who are will get what I'm trying to say.

The fake Localbitcoins app on Google Play, still live at the time of writing, is indicative of how streetwise the Bitcoin community really is – and can happen again.
