This release is quite a leap forward for those who are interested in the prospects of Atomic Cross Chain Transfers (ACCT).  OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY means that we could soon see trading directly between Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies without using centralised exchanges or other third party intermediaries.  See this thread for discussion.  The less we rely on exchanges, the more stable the future of crypto becomes.
