Who is Satoshi Nakamoto? The suspects in the search for bitcoin's secretive architect

Bitcoin has become part of the popular consciousness, even if it has not quite reached mainstream usage. The digital currency has both fascinated and worried governments and regulators, spawned a devoted internet community, and attracted the attention of major financial corporations.

However, the cryptocurrency's founder, who refers to himself online as "Satoshi Nakamoto", remains a mystery. The identity of Satoshi, as his fans refer to him, has perplexed news organisations and the bitcoin community alike, with a series of false alarms "outing" the wrong person.

Now, two publications once again claim to have outed Satoshi as an Australian computer scientist and entrepreneur named Craig Wright. Wired and Gizmodo claim to have a series of emails, old blogposts and eyewitness accounts that, in Wired's words, show that: "Either Wright invented bitcoin, or he’s a brilliant hoaxer who very badly wants us to believe he did."
