the year of exchanges is 2013
I just to want to do forex trading in2015  Shocked

But this is about decentralized exchanges, which are very much needed like decentralized marketplaces in my opinion. And yes, I think they will see an emergence and gain traction this year.

2014 was already quite a year for Ripple

decentralized
Ripple is a decentralized protocol even if at the moment the network is entirely run by Ripple Labs. Internet used to be cenfralized when it started under DARPA's hood.

this conversation happened post gox.

Nxt is probably the best *decentralized* exchange atm.

However the problem is real decentralization comes when the bank does not know you are puting money in or out of the decentralized exchange.

Hey, we might as well try it, it's not as if the current method of doing it, is working.

I see the current Bitcoin exchanges as one of the largest weak points for the currency to grow to it's full potential.

The BTC protocol is working, but the supporting systems are still centralized.

A decentralized order book, may just be a step in the right direction.  Grin

Order execution priority is going to be a major problem for a true decentralised exchange. The queue system will be messy at high transaction volume. Decentralised exchange will be experimental in 2015.

We are working on a exchange site that will not keep users bitcoins but only fiat. The trade system is like Bitstamp where buyers/sellers post orders and deals are made when prices match. How does this sound? No more Mt gox tragedy.

In order to make this possible, users have to use our CoolWallet (a form of cold storage).

The exchange site will go live in about a month.

I'm really quite sane!
I think it would be somewhat difficult for a decentralized exchange to have any kind of significant amount of volume. In order for a decentralized exchange to work in a truly decentralized fashion any time someone were to make a trade it would need to be confirmed by the miners.

I would say that the OTC market may have potential to grow

Decentralized concept is a pipe dream. Large scale efficient manage of data and resources required a seed server (centralized) to keep track of everything.

Thoughts on how a decentralized exchange will impact bitcoin and the bitcoin ecosystem?

I think bitcoin would be at at least 3000 today if there had been no gox, no bitcoinica etc...
