I do not believe wider economic happenings have any real effect on Bitcoin. If there are, they're purely because they're used as inspiration for the same knackered old bunch of traders to try and con more coins out of the naive.

The market has experienced enough volatility in the recent months. It's normal that traders take a step back to see where the price will settle at. This article just wants itself to look more important than it in reality is. Just like most of these kind of articles do nowadays.
