If they keep their mystery coin to themselves, that will be just fine. Because most people will rather work with an open source coin than a centralized one.

People with brains, yes. That's however not the case with non Bitcoiners. They just blindly follow and accept anything coming from their bank. That being said, I don't think this "project" will ever surpass the testing phase.

Why can't they just adopt an existing coin, like the bitcoin, monero or even the British coin? We have enough altcoins to last a lifetime!
Probably because they are open source?
Those hyper banks need something of their own, to launder more cash without public or government notice. Closed project will give them that opportunity. Besides, prestige they need that, "our own, first, official" love us we are sooo cool and trendy and we need your money. And I say fuck you. Hope this gonna be a disaster for them Smiley
They dont want transparency, believe me.

It will be a disaster for sure. Banks are just coming out of the denial stage of the natural grieving process that will ultimately lead to the harsh realization that their most profitable business is dead. These bank managers are acting like preschool children that want to impress others by owning the coolest sticker collection.

Even decentralized altcoins are hardly marketable these days. For a centralized bank coin there is no market. It's pure delusion that they can compete with Bitcoin. The fate of MintChip should have been a lesson for them. But for me there's no problem if they want to waste their remaining funds... Cheesy

I doubt they will attract much developer talent for their project... I'll give them 3 years until their project is cancelled.

ya.ya.yo!

Several of the world's biggest banks are working together to create a digital currency which can be used to speed up settlements with the ambitious goal of putting the blockchain-based system into practice by 2018.
