If you ask me, we have seen nothing yet in terms of new malware targeting Bitcoin users, because Bitcoin use is still not very common. With increasing adoption, malware deployments are likely to skyrocket.

unfortunately that's true but with the increasing adoption too we will see that the security companies will give more attention to things related with bitcoin so we should't worry but instead people need to stay vigilant about their behavior in the net

It's not surprising at all that Bitcoin users are a highly attractive target for malware, because a successful intrusion means direct access to money which can be moved very quickly. If you ask me, we have seen nothing yet in terms of new malware targeting Bitcoin users, because Bitcoin use is still not very common. With increasing adoption, malware deployments are likely to skyrocket.

Luckily the vast majority of attacks is only possible when users are negligent of proper security practice. With better security education at least individual users can stay safe. Hardware wallets and two-factor-authorization may be effective in thwarting most if not all types of attack. However these can come with drawbacks as well (dependency on the manufacturer, surveillance issues).

Overall I think panic is not an adequate emotion regarding the situation, because everybody can follow best security practices and stay safe most of the time.

Just buy a good quality hardware wallet and "sleep like a baby".  IMO -- use linux too, but to each his own!

Danger?!  That's overkill.  What a useless article.
Still, to be safe we'd better sell all of our coin... to be safe.

The Bitcoin community now has more worrying things on its plate. As if hacking incidents plaguing cryptocurrency exchanges aren’t enough, the number of malware and ransomware threats on the rise. In the past couple of weeks, a number of new malicious programs were detected by multiple cyber security firms. One look at the list is enough to know that no device is currently safe.
