The most successful science nerd sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, aired it’s Bitcoin-focused episode last night going out to an estimated 12.6 million viewers. The episode, which went by the title “The Bitcoin Entanglement”, followed Sheldon and the gang as they embarked on a mission to track down the long lost, and forgotten Bitcoins that they had mined back in 2011.

It would be interesting to get an update about the viewership of this episode. That said, Bitcoin has moved beyond the used-by-nerds stage. This kind of portrayal may not be that good for Bitcoin's image amongst ordinary people.

The number of viewers can be looked up on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Big_Bang_Theory_episodes

For the most recent episode the number is still TBA. However the show is usually watched by 13-14 million people on average. Only in the States.

You can watch a few minutes from the episode on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXy3Hg3AT8A

Perhaps in the future there will be a new lesson. Before there was a profession hunters. Perhaps someday there will be a profession hunters of the lost coins. I heard somewhere that at the moment already lost about 4 million coins. Imagine what is the amount? Who knows what is more profitable to look for gold or bitcoins.

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
The most successful science nerd sitcom
I wouldn't say the show is for "science nerds".  They have a very mainstream overall audience.

That's why they presented Bitcoin in such a generic kind of light.  They oversimplify it because the oversimplified information is all that the general public (who are watching the show) know about.

Exposure is fine, but not all publicity is good publicity IMO.
