Have you ever stopped a minute and considered Andreas' situation thoughtfully? Is he sincere? He clearly says that he has worked for free without investing. He seems to have had a lot of debt while traveling so much. Is this plausible? Someone is strongly indebted and travels endlessly. Sorry but I used to trust him. I even bought his books. Now, after rationalising about him I no longer trust him. Even his body language is often, upon the whole, against him, thus showing that he is not genuine; he is too rigid, due to some bone or posture issues, or perhaps due to concealing some reality. His countenance is almost always stuck when he speaks. He never searches into memory, as if he does not have anything to reminisce, which may mean that he prepares everything, encyclopaedically and calculatingly. After observing him, I feel certain in saying that he is careless. I don't know why but he is not truthful. His reactions are often childishly arrogant. He is irritable and edgy because, I feel, he does not want his talk routine to be hindered.
If you believe in a successful bitcoin, please do not ascribe that to Andreas or anybody else. Things work smoothly without figureheads. Bitcoin doesn't need heralds or know-it-all bigmouth luminaries. They are generally full of shit, i.e. egotistical swashbucklers.

You are a complete fucking asshole.

What were you expecting, a dancing car-salesman sleazeball that you could "believe"? I can't fathom how the way the guy stands and TALKS is your rationale for not trusting him. Andreas has shown time and time again professional candor and restraint when tackling massively polarizing topics and communicating clearly about the technology.

What the fuck have you contributed? A wall of fucking text formatted like someone on a fucking booze bender?

Andreas never claimed to be a figurehead for anything - that title belongs to Egoist-In-Training Roger Ver - but something tells me you are into that shit, because you exhibit such poor character judgement.

I love argumentation.
For an outsider or someone who is new in crypto this might seem really weird that nearly 1 million dollars worth of bitcoin is being donated to this particular guy. But if you've been in crypto and in bitcoin specifically you know that we as a community owe Andreas. Antonopoulos is perhaps the only person in the crytocurrency community that I deem trustworthy and most importantly, worth listening to. Unlike a lot of other big names he didn't give up his integrity for money like a lot of others did and are doing. In fact I think he owned very little bitcoin up to this point (he struggled with debts prior to bitcoin so he invested all his earning early on to paying off those debts and supporting his family). His drive and dedication to, essentially, 'teach' bitcoin has earned him an insane amount of respect.

Roger flipping the middle finger and ranting about being a "made millionaire" - https://youtu.be/OJT2CbfHTpo?t=2468 (Helpfully time-indexed.)

Roger stating he was "surprised" by BCash, when he previously stated "my project", showing he's a liar - https://youtu.be/AkbSrmsYJ9c?t=4635

He's such a childish guy that thinks he's doing some important work and is rich and it all together makes him someone better than everyone else.
Don't abbreviate the name of my currency because you're trying to ridicule it! boo hoo
I'm doing something important you only have some little porn site and i'm a libertarian trying to give people decentralized money! Like this hasn't been done before Cheesy
People should let him know that if this is to be the face of BCH there should be no BCH.

All big blockers are pretty childish, because this is their approach to Bitcoin - instead of patiently waiting and contributing to technical solutions that can seriously boost Bitcoin's capacity, they want capacity increased right now, ignoring all scientific facts that it will eventually lead to a disaster, so no wonder that such a childish person with near-zero understand of how Bitcoin works is the leader of their movement. And the only reason why BCH exists is because Ver and Jihan are pumping it on exchanges and spend money on paid shills to promote it, so it's not wrong to say that he is the CEO of Bcash.

Wow this guy, such a child. I knew it was bad but this tops everything I've soon on this guy. He is single-handeldy destroying his entire reputation, or atleast what's left of it. I don't know who the guy he was arguing is but he brought up a really good argument against Ver. He said that it was indicative of how centralized bcash is when the 'owners' insist that it's being called 'bitcoin cash' instead of 'bcash'. It's laughable how pathetic this guy is, anyone can call it however they like regardless if Jihan or Roger agree with them. It's not that satoshi will come and hunt you down when someone says btc instead of bitcoin.

I don't think your vitriol is helpful. Roger Ver has done more for Bitcoin than you ever will do, despite his blunders.

You may not like his priorities and his view on what Bitcoin should be, but resorting to slander is typically the last resort of a person losing an argument.

I'm showing you videos that shows Roger doing exactly what he does.

If Roger's actions offend you, then you'll have to reconsider your devotion.

I also find it amusing that just because someone did "some good stuff" you think it absolves them of any future criticism. That statement is absurd.

Just for reference, in case people can't be bothered to scroll up:

Indeed, we might as well do the same to "theymos" someday!
He seems like a nice guy and has done more than enough to this community.
Nobody cares about the people how manages this community, but at least some of us know that is not an easy job.
I assume you are being sarcastic. I'm sure Theymos is doing very well. Thousands of bitcoins have been donated to this site.
I'm being serious here, trust me...
Forget about the donations that is not enough!
We should at least do something to show him we appreciate his work here.
We come from different angles of the world that is the least we can do to him.
If can't show our appreciation to the people who deserve it, who are we then?
You mean something more than nearly 10000 bitcoins?

Are you kidding me? Whoever own this address must be a very rich guy, at least not one of us i guess.

Umm, that's Theymos's BitcoinTalk donation address.

Nevertheless, this is not about being rich or poor. And no one can guarantee you that "Andreas" had zero BTC investments over the years.
What i was saying is we should at least do something for "Theymos" as token of our appreciation for all the good things done to us here on Bitcointalk.
Bitcoin community donations goes to Andreas... And our special BitcoinTalk donations for Theymos, that sounds great. Smiley

What you think? we can setup a date of the donations because we need to mobilize people.
When we have the date, then we contact "Theymos" to provide his private donation address.

I also wonder why people hate Roger Ver that much.
He did so many great things to bitcoin before so many people even know about bitcoin.
We are all humans, sometimes we can make a mistake because of that we should at least give him some credit.
When i was starting out with bitcoin Roger Ver was one of my mentors, I watched his teachings a lot on YouTube and i still respect him for that.
Sometimes we should forgive and forget to move on. No matter what, Ver is one of the guys that laid the foundation for bitcoin to what it is today.

Respect is difficult to earn and easy to lose. I guess you are right in saying that Roger has done a lot for Bitcoin in the early days. But he recently created a lot of fuzz, trying to divide the community and forcing Bitcoin Cash upon it. I believe that Roger is simply obsessed by his work. That can be a good thing in itself.

Couple obsessive with an explosive temper and you'll create a lot of noise.

On topic - Andreas is more the humble Bitcoin preacher who tried to make Bitcoin accessible for the non-tech savvy people. The community making him an instant BTC millionaire is one of the crypto stories in 2017 for me.

Antonoupoulos was my main source of early Bitcoin understandings. His compiled lectures, discussions, all easily digested, open and very approachable. He's not too conservative, and hardly corporate to the level of others mentioned in the same breath. What he's done and still doing now with the University of Nicosia will do far more for Bitcoin than any conference, interview, ICO endorsement ever will.

I don't generally support the idea of doing things like this, but I'm not too against it. If he gets donations, I'm pretty sure he'll do things with them that few others would. In fact, would be interesting to hear him comment. None of his students here on the forum?

By acting like a complete tool and tweeting that Andreas could've made more money, this demonstrates the sociopathic tendencies of Ver to rely on his wealth as "proof of superiority".

Andreas deserves every Satoshi he got, because unlike Ver, he provides informative and newcomer-relatable videos/books/talks that enrich the Bitcoin space.

I find it interesting in the same video Ver says "My project", yet in other interviews like the one with Richard Heart, he says "I was totally surprised by BCash". (Ref: https://youtu.be/AkbSrmsYJ9c?t=4635)

I find this to be indicative of a con-man and a liar that can't keep his story straight.

Whatever BCH is, its an attempt by Big Cartel Hashers to wrest control from open-source Bitcoin. Its BizCoin versus Bitcoin, and luckily for the whole planet - Bitcoin is winning.

Andreas is one of the most eloquent speakers on the topic of Bitcoin, but if he had invested even $300 in bitcoin back in 2012, he’d be a millionaire today...
That is, this person popularized bitcoin since 2012, but he did not invest his money in it? Do I understand correctly?

It's funny because IMO this crowdfunding wasn't so successful because people love Andreas so much, but rather because they dislike Roger. People should actually start making deals with Roger so that whenever he bashes someone this person will gain support in the Bitcoin community and possibly become famous and rich Cheesy Thanks Roger, you're trying so hard to entertain us all. Andreas should thank you for making him some money on the side.

The bitcoin community is thanking a famous entrepreneur and cryptocurrency evangelist, Andreas Antonopoulos, and present him more than $700 thousand in bitcoin, for his contribution to the popularization of cryptocurrency. The news is actively discussing in social networks.

Crowdfunding has started soon after the entrepreneur and investor Roger Ver post tweet that Antonopoulos would not hurt to invest in bitcoin:
