2017 was a huge year for cryptocurrencies all over the world. Several countries have introduced a national cryptocurrency either to facilitate cross-border payments or to dodge sanctions. Brazil, however, wants to promote its vast natural resources — that’s right– with crypto. Brazilians are becoming interested in the world of digital currency. Pretty much unknown until recently, cryptos are now a household name. Waves of investors, scholars and just regular people are suddenly curious to know more about cryptos and blockchain.  Still, the Brazilian cryptocurrency market is only taking its first baby steps.

The birthplace of Samba has already launched some cryptocurrencies, the most recent one is Nióbio Cash – a project that not only intends to be a speculative tool but to also encourage research and production of a Brazilian mineral called Niobium. Steel and high-tech industries use the valuable mineral in a wide range of products — from jet engines to medical equipment.
