This is definitely a good sign! It only shows it is being widely accepted as existing in this day and age. However, this fact alone does not give color of legality because Merriam-Webster is not a government nor a representation of a government. However, I believe it is still time to celebrate because having these terminologies included in this world-renowned reputable dictionary is something else. Imagine all these jargons were initially just coined by people who pioneered cryptos yet now we see it in this prestigious dictionary that will definitely be utilized by generations to generations. I see it as a step closer to a custom in the next five years to come, perhaps?

You know it's legit when it gets placed in the dictionary! This is remarkable as the inclusion of this terms in the dictionary signifies that more people are involved in such aspect to which to which led to its reinforcement and establishment through defining the word and publishing it in a very reliable reference people look unto. With terms such as cryptocurrency, blockchain, and initial coin offering being in the dictionary, this would definitely pave way to discovery and awareness. Hopefully, this will initiate a meaningful realization to its readers as they go through the meanings of each significant word.

Modern linguistics seem really open to a lot of new words... though I seriously doubt more people use "mainsplain" more then "cryptocurrency"!
Crypto lexicon is surprisingly quite limited in being accepted outside of the cryptosphere in my opinion. Haven't seen very much to suggest that other than "Bitcoin" and "crypto", they've infiltrated pop language.
At least now we have another reputable reference as to the spelling of cryptocurrency... now if anyone could tell me the proper way to spell things like DAPP/DApp/Dapp/dApp.

This addition is a welcome development in defining those terminologies that is often associated with Cryptos, this will enable newbies to acquire more knowledge and in particular meanings of those terms, this is geared towards encouraging pupils particularly high schools students to gain knowledge in Cryptos.

Merriam-Webster, one of the US’s leading dictionaries, added “cryptocurrency,” “Blockchain” and “initial coin offering” to its entries today, in a nod to their frequent use
The new entries are “used frequently enough by some in order to be placed in a reference for all,” the dictionary said.
The company saw the crypto entries as “on the opposite end of the economic spectrum” as way of organizing and distributing money in developing economies, like microfinance and microcredit, both of which describe small loans made to impoverished individuals and communities or similar financial services.
The three words were among 850 new entries to the dictionary, which also included “dumpster fire”, “antifa” and “mansplain”.
