Facebook reportedly wants to create its own cryptocurrency

Earlier rumors indicated the social media giant was researching blockchain.
Now it looks like that's for a payment system.

Facebook certainly doesn't need to raise money through an ICO for development. Evn if Facebook does issue a cryptocurrency, it would be the equivalent of fiat on Facebook and would probably be spendable only for Facebook advertisements. Who would be interested in buying a currency like that?
They wont really need to raise an ICO since the can able to support it with their own funds and develop those tokens to be used into their own service. I dont know why this thing being called as a cryptocurrency.I would rather treat nothing different into fiat itself. These news isnt rumors which if the information had been leaked out then high chance that they would really proceed on what they do plan but well i dont really consider this as a special thing.
if indeed this happens .....
we take a positive attitude that facebook receive crypto so there will be a positive value on facebook that can lift bitcoin value and maybe ICO ads will be allowed back

There is a big chance that Facebook marketologists scan potential market, trowing out such news.

Leave no FUD unchallenged
Even if it does happen, if people are imagining this like it's going to be something they can daytrade on an exchange, be prepared for disappointment.  I think the idea they were going with is that they want users to be able to send money to each other through Messenger.  Chances are, you'll only be able to withdraw directly to a verified bank account.  There won't be any "trading" in the way crypto users are expecting.  There won't be external wallet software.  You won't have any private keys.  Whatever their currency ends up being called, I don't think we're the target audience of these "facebucks", assuming they even do it at all.

Limited in number. Limitless in potential.
If they do, it will be a centralized cryptocurrency which is a useless and not worth to invest with IMO since the government will not tolerate it and especially if it's from facebook.

It's better not to be called a cryptocurrency that's not what crypto designed.

Facebook reportedly wants to create its own cryptocurrency

Earlier rumors indicated the social media giant was researching blockchain.
Now it looks like that's for a payment system.

and then we have this:

"Like many other companies, Facebook is exploring ways to leverage the power of blockchain technology," said a Facebook representative in an emailed statement. "This new small team will be exploring many different applications. We don't have anything further to share."

This is a joke, right? Where the hell facebook said they are creating their own crypto? Where do they say that? Why post rumors? we must have serious news and not rumors

The topic title renamed properly, thanks.

Concerning rumors: crypto space is full of such, and many of them directly affect coin prices daily.
Also this one was already mentioned by Cointelegraph and Forbes today.
