The first time I read this I thought it could be somewhat unfair to the students, given that maybe some of them might not be familiar with bitcoin, but after I've checked the exam I saw that it was a really nice way to give these students meaningful problems, since they were asked normal math question, and got the chance to get familiar with some aspects on how bitcoin works at the same time.

I hope more teachers do the same. They keep in line with the program they are teaching, but instead of boring problems, they can actually contribute to increase the knowledge of these students in important aspects of our lives, and bitcoin is definitely something important.

Interesting but hardly unfair to anyone who didn't know about Bitcoin. The math question (if I understood the translated version from Dutch correctly) was actually just using Bitcoin facts to demonstrate a typical math problem. It wouldn't have given an edge to anyone already into Bitcoin, but it cetainly gives 200k students an eye opener if they didn't!

It seems pretty simple enough otherwise, probably aimed at students aged 17 or so (not entirely familiar with math in school these days). Brilliant piece of tying math to real world cases... and it tells us that there are quite a few Dutch civil servants in education enamoured with Bitcoin!

That's actually quite surprising. If you haven't been somewhat notified about these type of questions, I can understand that people will struggle with them, even if they have heard of it in the media or whatever.

I'm sure that a lot people here on this forum don't even know the very basics of Bitcoin, so how can we expect that from complete strangers? A lot of the average joes are only hyped about the potential returns.

They have no idea what the underlying technology is and how it functions in basic terms. Making money is their only incentive right now, and I seriously hope that it will change eventually. We nearly all started like that, right?
Sad reality but this is through.I doubt only a few would really have the exact knowledge when it comes to bitcoin and into the tech behind it.Most people do only jump in because of its money making opportunity not totally knowing even into its basic information. Its good to hear out that theres a bitcoin exams and take note,it do talks about mathematical where i found this very hard for those who dont have too much knowledge or just newly knew about bitcoin. If they pass then i doubt they do passed out also on most people on this forum when it comes to bitcoin knowledge.

If this is a math exam, maybe it's not mandatory to know a lot about crypto, just some general thing applied to the crypto field.

Sinbad Mixer: Mix Your BTC Quickly
This is the first time I hear about such a thing! So, imagine yourself sitting for an exam, and all of a sudden a question related to bitcoin caught your attention, and you have not been told that you were going to come across it. What would you do or feel? I would actually be happy because I would think that I am the only one who does know about bitcoin. This is really fun, I salute them for it. That is the way to raise a good generation.

The basic idea is just to expose the students to the rudiments of bitcoin and the technology behind it. There are a lot of successes recorded so far as regards bitcoin especially in the developed countries and Netherlands is trying to educates their own students towards achieving a set goal in this modern world of digital currency.

Right! Besides that, the needed information is given and I assumed that the exam they have are already learned by the students like derivatives which was tackled so even if it was not about bitcoin then they would be able to solve it. It just so happen maybe that the instructors are cryptocurrency enthusiast that's why an exam relating to bitcoin technology is given.

I am not a teacher but if I would know someone who is a teacher/crypto enthusiast then I would recommend to him to give the same exam as well but it should be related to their lesson. The students would be able to recall then that they learned it in school and they wouldn't be ignorant if in case bitcoin is mentioned in social media or television.

It's kind of preparing the students to  embrace the technology behind bitcoin. It is also a good step for their students to have more advance knowledge to their advantage when crypto becomes adopted.

That’s quite true. Many here in this forum don’t even know the other components or functions of bitcoin or cryptocurrencies itself because they mainly focus on how to generate money from it.

Hopefully this new school requirement in the Netherlands would lead to more scholarly discussion about bitcoin and crypto. It’s not a surprise that not many have knowledge about it because there’s not that much sources of information to get from. Aside from some websites or blogs, there should be scholarly articles and journals related to crypto for people to take it seriously, and not think of it as merely a scam or easy way to get rich.

Pretty cool. Requires them to understand an aspect of technology that is always in the news nowadays and will inevitably become more and more a part of daily life.
