So, what is it going to look like? Lol.

Same question was what I asked when I read the headline. We all know no one knows Satoshi and there we go building a statue for him. Could he be behind the idea? ( Huh

whatever you do,do not,I repeat do not use any nonferrous metals or other material that can and in this case, surely will, vandalized and stolen
Kiev is famous for it's inhabitants love to strip the monuments of anything that can be sold for scrap for a few dollars
on a more serious note,if Kiev got the monument erected, this could be a place of interest and worship for many cryptocurrency enthusiasts in Ukraine
just, try to not go Budapest's route and make it ,uh,less anonymous

The statue of Lenin in Kiev stood on one of the central streets. 5 years have passed and this place has not yet been installed another monument. And this despite the fact that Ukraine has many national heroes. I doubt that there is a chance to install on this place a monument of Satoshi Nakamoto. This place is too important for Kiev and Ukraine as a whole.

This project is a good idea. But imagine thet are going to make him faceless and write down "Satoshi Nakamoto." Actually, I still do not know whether he is a person or an organization or can be even a small country. From his name, you can tell he is Japanese. But he can be American and just came up with a Japanese name. This statue is going to make people have an endless conversation about the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto.

This is utterly moronic. How the fuck can you build a statue of an anonymous person?  Roll Eyes

It's probably a scam anyway just to beg for money for the project and seems like it's already worked:

The organizers also intend to file a petition with the Kyiv City State Administration and apply for permission to build a real, physical monument. They plan to raise the necessary means through a crowdfunding campaign. In the meantime, the virtual statue project has been supported by the Ukrainian entrepreneur Alexander Soroka, founder of the investment platform Startup Network, who has already donated 1 bitcoin (BTC).

Next comes the ICO.

Does anybody want to buy some digital air from me?

Hi hilariousetc,
I understand your doubt, Could you read on our website information about us http: //satoshirepublic.org.Your opinion is very important to us.
Another city joined us, there will soon be a second press release.

Now we are engaging in the construction of monuments to the great man who for everyone is a new symbol of freedom. If we can achieve it now, we'll realize our other goals of our social project. We have not yet launched ICO.

Monument installation is the first stage of the global project implementation, which includes the creation of the Virtual Decentralized Blockchain Republic, the center of which will be the capital of Satoshi Nakamoto City.

We conduct a social ICO to achieve the following goals:
1. Construction of monuments and opening of the embassies of the Republic all over the world.
2. Creation of Virtual Blockchain Republic - development of software for the management of the republic,  - We are on stage “Customer Discovery” now, please send your suggestions if you want. More information on the link: http: //satoshirepublic.org . Thanks!

There's no chance this statue is going to actually get installed, so far it's just some few activists presenting their project, it would need to get approved by officials, and this is where it will stop. Maybe it could get installed in some remote location, but these guys want to install it on one of the main streets of the city, so there's no way officials would allow to place a statue of someone in their mind so insignificant (they'll probably hear the name "Satoshi Nakamoto" for the first time when they'll hear this proposition). Journalists really like to post news about some awesome things that are going to happen, but so often it's just promises and ideas that never become a reality.

Hi hatshepsut93.

A virtual monument will stand on this place for 2 months and nobody will stop us from doing it.

THE ERECTION OF THE MONUMENT TO SATOSHI NAKAMOTO IN KYIV WILL HELD IN SEVERAL STAGES:
1. On the first stage the virtual monument (visible through the mobile app) will be erected.
2. The second stage: to submit the petition to Kyiv City State Administration & start the fundraising campaign for the real monument installation.
In case the permission for the monument installation will be received, it will be erected in Kyiv, on boulevard Shevchenko, on the site of the monument to Lenin.

In case the petition will be declined, the monument to Satoshi Nakamoto will be erected on another location. Now there is a wave of interest on the part of business to erect the monument on one of the territories of the contemporary technological business centers of Kyiv.

No need to put a real face of a Japanese guy, they can build the head and put a bitcoin symbol instead of the face.
BTW, the place where they plan to build the statue is good and i doubt that authorities will accept it easily.

Edit : @1referee : yeah, why not. The artist(s) can make good things, he/they need to use its/their imagination.

Hi GizmoHF. We submit the petition to the city administration and if it is rejected - we will build a real physical monument elsewhere, on the territory of the innovative business center in Kiev.

It's Ukraine. In the former Soviet states you can buy anything and everything if the price is right. So, if they get enough funds for the project I'm pretty sure we're going to have the first statue of our founder. It's going to attract tourists for sure, which is another reason for the government of Ukraine to support it.

As for the face it could be a statue of a faceless man, or just a statue of a coin with with arms and legs Cheesy
It won't be the first BTC monument though.

Most of the statues represents anonymous people. Since the goal is not to show who they are, but, rather, what they represent. There is a difference between a statue and a bust. A bust, by design, represents someone.

But a statue could be a demonstration of the ideas that Satoshi represented. Still, it would be a personal view of the artist on Nakamoto. But in that case, a face would not be the most important, but all the dress and attitude of the statue.

I've seen very few statues represent anonymous people. Most have a recognizable face, bust or statue. But I do like your image. I still think the idea is ridiculous. If Satoshi wanted a statue in his honor, he would have come out and taken credit for revolutionizing payments and currencies. The man has single-handedly begun a financial revolution of magnum proportions. The world is moving digital and quickly.
He decided to remain anonymous for his own good yet he do know the possible things do might happen when he would tend to get out and shown himself into the public. There would be lots of questions and possible problems of hunting him down due to his creation and now we arent still able to know on whos satoshi nakamoto but yet people do recognize on the project he did made which really do make a change when it comes to payment system. Any statue or monument would do as long it signifies it anonymity it would be considerable.

Grin I can't figure out what face is going to be on this Satoshi Nakamoto statue.

when I see this question reminds me of so many comics images I saw on the internet about the identity of satoshi nakamoto

...

I do not know who is behind this project, but it seems to me that they are not influential people in the political area, so they will not be able to materialize this project because what they want to do will be necessary to be people with influences in the political area or even have people influential in the political area. then they want to do this:

Quote

A Global Initiative, a Blockchain Republic

According to local media reports, the installation of the statue in Kiev is part of a global initiative to erect Satoshi monuments around the world and create a so called “Blockchain Republic. In case the city authorities reject the petition, the authors of the project say they’ll be looking for another location to place the symbolic figure.

this is a very ambitious project and will have to challenge many governments with different cultures and different policies.

I have read some other articles concerning the same subject, and it quickly becomes clear that there is just one reason for this, and that is just to collect as much money as possible, which only points at greed.

These people don't care about Satoshi, but only use it as a smoke screen to hide their actual motive, which as always comes down to money. It's nothing new anymore nowadays, but the creativity reached a new level here.

I am sure that if they ever manage to settle a statue somewhere, Roger Ver will come up with an opposite reaction, and I am actually looking forward to it. Japan is his home ground, so I expect a statue of his face in Tokyo.

It would just turn out to be a typical sculpture with a bitcoin symbol in the face. Its still a good idea but basing on what they are proclaiming they are really planning to create one with a face, i dont know whose face would really be putted on that monument..

If you buy my MKAGA (make america great again) ICO token backed by The Fake Tan Association, I'll buy your shit.

In all seriousness, I actually hope that everywhere these clowns go to will have their requests rejected. Bitcoin doesn't need this nonsense. It will do more harm than good and will yet again point out how most people in the crypto space are utter fools, and there is no way to even refute that in such scenario. Instead of wasting time on statues and waiting for authorities to respond with rejections, they can better utilize their time by actually trying to increase merchant adoption there.

This is ridiculous, this thread is going to turn into yet another "who is" one.

the only thing a statue can represent is a bitcoin symbol! it cant be a guy,
it cant be a girl because WE DONT KNOW

Great publicity though for Bitcoin in Kiev at least

Grin I can't figure out what face is going to be on this Satoshi Nakamoto statue. According to Wikipedia, Satoshi Nakamoto is the name used by the unknown person or people who developed bitcoin, authored the bitcoin white paper, and created and deployed bitcoin's original reference implementation.

Maybe it will be the face of a Japanese, at the same time it will be a symbol of the fact that Japan is very actively introducing a crypto currency in its country. However, I doubt that this will be feasible in practice. In any case, in the center of Kiev in place of the largest monument of Lenin to put a monument to Satoshi Nakamoto, this is unrealistic. At this point, most likely, will put a monument to some national hero, and not actually a monument to the bitcoin and his creator. If it is installed, it is not on the supposed place in the center of Kiev.

There you go. Satoshi can be whoever we want him/her/them to be.

What they should do is render the whitepaper in granite but it would be rather bulky.

This is far from possible of happening. One thing is that the previously erected statue there was of Vladimir Lenin the city council would be disrespectful if they even accept a project of erecting a person we don't even know the face off. Secondly is Satoshi Nakamoto even a Ukrainian or is he portrayed as a hero in that country to be worthy of a monument in that country? I don't think so, like the worthless article said it is about supporting what they called the "blockchain republic" which I don't think the Ukrainian government is in full support of or even their citizens have the interest of being part of a crowdfunding  just to build Satoshi Nakamoto's Statue.

The local council won't give the slightest shit about this idea and will throw it out immediately. And surely it represents almost every single aspect Satoshi did not.

Satoshi did the initial work, but he, with all due respect and credits, is no longer part of the process, and I am happy that Bitcoin doesn't have one main character like Ethereum or Bcash.

No need to put a real face of a Japanese guy, they can build the head and put a bitcoin symbol instead of the face.
I personally don't see any value in this, but if they proceed anyway, then they just need a BTC and they are done. Using only the BTC instead of something that's shaped like a human, contributes to its permissionless nature, and that's exactly what it should be praised for. Human input is poison to everything in the world as we have seen.

An initiative to erect a monument of Satoshi Nakamoto in Ukraine’s capital is gaining momentum and support. The idea is to place the statue right where the red Karelian stone figure of Lenin used to stand, before it was taken down almost five years ago. The project is said to be part of a global campaign to build Satoshi monuments around the world.
