It's whatever gets people to read these days.  If, for example, they sift through the comments of their previous articles about crypto and see a noticeable deal of skepticism about it, their next article on the subject is more likely to pander to that demographic.  They're no longer reporting the news, they're merely feeding back and reinforcing the ignorance of their readers.

Populism > Journalism.

It's shameful, but that's just how things are now.  The stuff they write doesn't have to be accurate or true, it just has to resonate with the readership.  So they just write any old shit and they can always print a retraction later if someone threatens legal action because of it.  As absurd as it is, this is the new normal.

This section is Independent 'voices' which means it's not the paper itself, but their own journos have never said one positive thing either. As it's presumably curated it'll still fit whatever narrative they're in the mood for pushing.

After all this time I find it strange there's still only a handful of well informed and rational voices making consistent appearances. In whatever form it eventually settles, crypto isn't going anywhere but deeper in everyday life.

@gentlemand. They laugh on the Winklevoss brothers now but they have the chance to be one of first trillionaires in the world.

I reckon there were many dreamers in the past that had the imagination to change the world but they were ridiculed because they were not understood.

It is not just the independent. The Media is against the cryptocurrency in general. With that being said, they always struggle to take it down and they are doing the impossible to change the public's opinion concerning it. And that is the one of the reasons why the bitcoin price has dropped. In my opinion, they will not be capable of wining because bitcoin is not alone. I really hope they stop with their mess and try to post something useful in the future.
The media isn't against crypto

It depends on who owns the media. A publication like the Independent has owners who are heavily invested in banks so of course they would be pushing to make cryptocurrency look bad.

Some media will be against cryptocurrency and you can tell from their content while others are pro or at least neutral.

The media isn't against crypto and the media isn't the reason the price has dropped.

The media is nothing more than a sentiment surfer. If the market is bearish they become equally as bearish. If the market is bullish, they become equally as bullish. They have to do this in order to remain relevant.

They know how markets work. During bear markets good news has no impact and for that reason they reduce good news articles as much as possible, unless the good news is too big to not publish.

Last year during the bull run the media was extremely bullish, and even so bullish that it nearly annoyed me as Bitcoiner. People just need to accept that we're dealing with businesses and not anti crypto outlets.

How exactly the mainstream media were bullish last year? I remember CNBC were covering crypto a lot, invited Bitcoin supporters and shilled for altcoins, but I think that's it, other news outlets were more like "Bitcoin reached X, is this the top of the bubble?". They were throwing doubts when BTC reached 1k, 2k, 6k, 8k, then they were covering futures, ATH and the crash. And of course they gave publicity to Jamie Dimon who attacked Bitcoin multiple times last year.

From 2010 Independent is owned by Alexander Lebedev, one of the russian oligarch and former KGB officer. Publishing policy of this newspaper may be determined by the owner only, but also may be influenced by Russia. Lebedev is former KGB agent, and Putin is also one of them, we know that Russia is not very friendly toward cryptocurrency, at least not to the one they can not control.

Last printed copy was published some 2 years ago, and after plagiarism scandal in 2011 they have lost reputation of some serious newspapers. It is difficult to say what is today rank of this news portal in UK, but I guess they do not have too much influence.

gentlemand , maybe you should contact writer of this article and ask why she has such an attitude Wink

I don't know why everything that winds up on the Independent is so rabidly anti crypto, but here's more of the same.

I have no idea why the writer's mates were so fucking dim to pile in if they couldn't afford to get raped. Hey ho.

You wonder if there's an ulterior motive behind their stance on crypto. A lot of these media conglomerates are owned by institutional investors who have reason to want to see Bitcoin fail. It wouldn't be hard to imagine one of these bigwigs placing a call to the Independent editors to drum up the anti-crypto sentiment.

The owners of the Independent are actually heavily invested in banks so your idea makes sense.
